Cuba is so much fun, but it's best to get off the beaten track and try to buy goods and services directly from the people, if you can. Fidel (yes, Fidel) takes the majority of any $$ that goes to any official entity, be it restaurant, hotel, taxi or even those quaint art faires that he's contrived in Havana. It takes a lot of work and some knowledge of Spanish, but seeking out dinners in private Paladars and riding in unoffial taxis is worth the effort. And it keeps money out of the Castros' Swiss bank accounts.
