Las Vegas: 1966
Vimeo user Jeff Altman did a great digitizing some old school 16mm Kodachrome for the above video about Las Vegas. The muted colors, wonky film speeds and vintage architecture make a great throwback to the simpler days of unabashed, Vegas fun, before the current era of crowd engineering, headlining shows and unbridled excess. Mix in a cooling, modern soundtrack and the product is three and a half minutes of grade A nostalgia. Nice work Jeff.

When the corporate world took over Las Vegas it lost the charm of 'vacation' and 'honeymoon'. It became Disneyworld and hostility. In 1967 I met the love of my life and besides our love in bloom, we also enjoyed the surrounding beauty of the desert and finest lounge shows in the world. We were both employed at a major Casino and enjoyed dining out as it was inexpensive and people had pride in their appearances. The dealers were friendly, all services were given with genuine joy. One could walk the strip all night without hearing obscene language or being hassled for money. The original Las Vegas world is no more, but oh the memories are etched in our minds forever. Viva Las Vegas 1967.
