Video: Kayaker has rare encounter with a blue whale
A kayaker at Redondo Beach, California recently had the rare opportunity to see one of these magnificent creatures up close and personal, and lucky for us he was wearing a GoPro helmet cam at the time. The footage he captured is stunning, with some fantastic views of the whale, both above and below the water, giving viewers a true sense of the size of these animals.
I have to say, this guy is definitely braver than I am. Watching the whale from a kayak would be a humbling enough experience, but getting into the water, and seeing it pass by underneath, would be equal parts terrifying and awe inspiring.
Check out the video below.

That was great!!! The whales are just so awesome. I'm really glad we (humans) have stopped killing most of them. Put pressure on Japan to leave the whales alone!!! Thanks for the video

When you encounter wildlife, look, enjoy and keep your distance. Don't try to touch or chase after them.

Once in a lifetime awesome! Though he had nothing to fear. Whales are not carnivorous nor violent. Like the headline says, he was just hanging out.

Why is there always some idiot trying to advertise their stupid website under comments? I guess you have to take the morons with the good on the internet.

Seriously it don't matter whether this man was out looking for something like this to see and tape or not. Fact is the man did tape this quite amazing creature, shared this video, and did something that it sure sounds like several people are envious of by just saying this was planned. Really who cares if it was planned, there is now an opportunity for the rest of the world to see something truly amazing!

And why not? Still, he got some beautiful pics. He probably paddles at there regularly and most days sees little and erases his pictures.

This guy doesn't have "both oars in the water." I heard his comments last night. I'll bet he's looking for a few bucks and his 15 minutes of fame.
