My father in-law transitioned from the DC-8 to the 727. Then spent 16 years across the 747-100, -200, and retired on the -400ER. Reading your post was like a carbon-copy. The comments he has made about the 727 and 747 were practically identical to what you posted. He's quite bummed today that he won't be able to climb into the 747-800!
