Six Flags Magic Mountain to add insane Drop of Doom ride in 2012
The park's Superman: Escape from Krypton roller coaster features two twin 415-foot tall towers. Roller coaster cars are launched from zero to 100 mph down the twin tracks and then up these two spires. Those two skyscraping towers are going to be used as the structure for the LEX LUTHOR: Drop of Doom where riders will drop 400 feet at an unreal 85 mph. After falling for five seconds, which will probably feel like an eterntity, the riders will come to a halt just a few feet from the ground.
To put this insane drop in context, the tallest drop rides in the United States are around 300 feet tall. The view from 400-feet up should be beyond breath-taking. I have to imagine that the wait will be ridiculously long with only two eight-person wide gondolas, but I'm betting that many will gladly wait hours for such an experience. Read more about this new ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain's LEX LUTHOR: Drop of Doom page and watch the preview video below.

Yikes! My tummy hurts just watching it. I couldn't ride that. My husband would.

Who comes up with these ideas? Sickening. People need to have their heads examined after going on a ride like that.
Jennie Sep 25th 2011 6:22PM
Why do you feel the need to say something like that? This is someone's hobby and life's work! What if someone said that about your favorite thing to do? Just because it is not your taste does not mean that you should say that they should have their head examined. YOUR ignorance and rudeness is sickening.

they had a 200+ foot "drop of doom" ride at the Edmonton Mall (Canada) years ago, don't know if there is still an amusememt park in there, (they also had a water world too, like our Island Adventure here in Florida). well, by the time you got to even think of screaming, you were already at the bottom, it was awesome!!!!! 400 ft is gonna be SMOKIN'!!!!

Cedar Point has the Top Thrill Dragster - insane ride - people wet themselves - seriously. Ride shuts down with any gust of wind or rain, etc - it's tall and fast

They could take the tower and lease it to a local radio or TV station as a broadcast tower! Additional income $$$$

I guess it's pretty high, but Kingda Ka is at 456 ft. I know it's not a drop ride but why wouldn't they go to say....500 ft.?

While some will think it's fun, there will be those who will die on it. Ya think they could think of something other than "two twin 415-foot tall towers" are there four towers? Either 2 towers-which is better so close to the overpress on 9-11 or twin towers. Two twins is one set of twins too many.

I would never go on that.
