Just for the sake of clarity, Phnom Bakheng is not part of the Angkor Wat temple complex. Phnom Bakheng is a separate temple within the Angkor Archaeological Park and pre-dates Angkor Wat by a few centuries. Angkor Wat, like Phnom Bakheng, is one of 44 temples within the archaeological park. It is a common misconception that "Angkor Wat" is the name for the entire area. "Wat" means temple, and so Angkor Wat is just one of dozens of temples in this area.
