For Sale: Jackson Hole ski resort
Snow King, an iconic and popular Jackson Hole, Wyoming ski resort is up for sale, and the current owner hopes to have it sold before the snow begins to fly this winter. The move isn't a popular one with the locals however, who worry that their favorite hill could be shut down altogether. The resort, which is just six blocks from the Jackson Hole town square, features 400 skiable acres, three ski lifts, snow making equipment, and well lit runs for both day and night skiing. It also has a lodge with 200+ rooms for visitors, condominiums for extended stays, and even a conference center.
Current owner Mauel Lopez hasn't said how much he is asking for the resort, but he is reportedly in negotiations with more than one interested party. He also notes that he is selling Snow King for personal reasons and not financial ones, and that he would prefer to sell it as a single unit, and not break it up into separate pieces.
Snow King first opened back in 1939, which means it has actually been around longer than Jackson Hole itself. The resort is a popular one with local skiers and snowboarders however, many of whom have learned to ski on its slopes. Because of this sentimental attachment, many in town are worried that a buyer won't be found and Lopez will simply shutdown operations before the season begins.
If reports are to be believed, La Nina is cranking up for another year, which could mean lots of snow in Jackson Hole again this season. Loads of powder could also translate into a busy season on the slopes, which means Snow King just might be a good investment for someone looking to break into the resort business.
Anyone up for a Gadling ski resort?

Wow! what a VERY misleading title.
Based on the title, you would think the iconic Jackson Hole ski resort is for sale.
Typical attempt to sensationalize a rather mundane story.
A more accurate title would be "Snow King ski area in Jackson Wyoming, Up for Sale."
Snow King isn't even a resort. It's just a ski area with a couple of hotels / condos. Not much to qualify it for "resort" status.
Come on Gadling, you can do better. Maybe we should blame Kraig Becker. Does he even ski?

Patrick: How would you define a resort than? I'd say having hotels and condos at a destination where people ski is a ski resort.
Also, the story that was used as the source, and is linked in this post, refers to Snow King as a resort as well.

I personally wouldn't call a place with one hotel / condo as a resort.
Why not just title it Snow King for sale instead of saying Jackson Hole ski resort for sale? I'm sure you know there actually is a ski resort called Jackson Hole, right?

Yes, I do know that there is a resort called Jackson Hole Ski Resort. I'm sorry if the title offends you, but the article makes it very clear, very quickly, exactly which resort is for sale and links to the original source for the story.
Whether or not you feel that Snow King is a resort is obviously up to your interpretation, but having read this story on three other locations, and seeing them all refer to Snow King as a "resort," I feel confident in the use of that term.

LOL. Because I think the title of the article is misleading you somehow equate that with being offended? It takes a bit more than that to offend me.
I just think the title of the article could more accurately reflect what "resort" is really being sold. Unless the intention was to get people to read the article based on what the title inferred rather then what was actually happening. If that was the case then it worked. (at least in my case)

I can assure you that the title wasn't meant to be misleading and wasn't meant to infer anything. Perhaps my use of the word "offend" was wrong, so I'll instead say sorry that you felt mislead in some way.
And for the record, yes I do ski. Well, snowboard more than ski.
