Kent, all I can say is WOW.
You just nailed it, where it was needed. It's very nice to see a pilot's point of view regarding this accident and specially, the pilots attitudes.
I don't think they made mistakes, but that they were mislead by the airplane and its look-so-clever-but-actually-stupid logic.
IMHO, Airbus and Thales are the ones to blame in this accident. Airbus said that the plane wouldn't stall in cruise flight, relieving AF and all other airlines from training the pilots on this maneuver. How can all these morons blame the pilots for something they were never prepared to deal with and worst, a situation they were told would never happen?
The pilots weren't heroes, nor villains. They did what they could. Most of the critics wouldn't even know how to drive a manual speed car, but they criticize the pilots as if the situation could be solved easily. Shame on them.
It's not the first time something like that happens with the A330, as we can read on AvHerald. Airbus has shown a terrible and fatal attitude of being silent regarding some accidents, like the pinned reverse situation that lead to HUNDREDS of deaths in *multiple* accidents, including the worst accident in Brazilian soil (TAM3054 @ CGH/SBSP) with 199 persons dead.
