I am a born and raised SoCal woman. Retired Air Traffic Controller. This article had me going 'till the "rugby on horseback" statement..what?...The harrowing flight story "while I was on the sticks"?...What was he flying? A helicopter?..No..A C172..The styrofoam surfboard?...They are all foam boards to begin with...then they are "glassed"..Some are glassed more lighly than others...but, it sounds like he was hit in the head with the equivalent of a $2.99 styofoam cooler...Please....

C'mon... he wasn't talking about playing rugby on horseback, he was referring to doing a segment that involved horseback riding during the show on rugby. And, sure, "at the sticks" is most commonly used when discussing helicopters, but I've heard that same phrase thrown around in conversations about everything from small aircraft to model airplanes. As for your last comment,it was probably a softboard. Regardless, I think the point was that he was fortunate to be on a flimsy board and not the real deal. From one SoCal lady to another, give the man a break.
