Paul... are you drunk?
Or did someone pay you / give you a free trip to write this crap?
I've been to beaches all over the East Coast, from Nantucket to Key West and Folly is NOT one of the best by far. One of the dirtiest - maybe?
The Tides is "a converted Holiday Inn" - it more like old & shabby Best West.
The hotel and associated beach is "drunk ville" and dirty. The restaurants are filthy and the service can be good but is generally crap. Prices are at tourist trap levels for everything.
The "crowds not sloppy drunk". Are you sure you were on Folly Beach? Every time I was there the beach was full of power drinkers who could not speak coherently by 2-3pm.
For people reading this - I've been there, don't waste your time or money.

Paul is correct. I was born in Charleston and spend a great deal of my youth at Folly when it truly was a Great beach. These days it is just as you decribed it and not worth your time!!! This article is total BS.
