Paul Brady, the writer of this article, must be a very unhappy, miserable Yankee! Just cause you're not happy, Paul, don't take it out on South of The Border, a South Carolina icon. That's just YOUR hateful opinion!
My parents took me there in the late 50's and the 60's. I've been there since as an adult. It's tacky and FUN.
Ripped off? Ever stayed at Disney World and gone through the park? Ever bought lunch there, or even a soda? You BETTER be ready to spend BIG bucks! Lay off South of the Border. It's fun! It's cheap! It's tacky! It's a southern icon!
No more Burma Shave signs, but thank goodness we still have South of the Border signs! They're funny! They're everywhere! We anticipate them! We love them!
You need to apologize to South of the Border!

speaking of being "very unhappy and miserable" and based on your hatefull comment to Paul Brady about being a "Yankee", I beleive you are still fighting the civil war. Get over it....Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomatox on Oct 12,1870 and the war is over........

I agree! I have been travelling that stretch of I-95 for over 30 (omg!) years from Ft. Lauderdale to DC. I can't wait to see those South of the Border signs! It means I'm either get there or getting home. I love SOTB!

What school did you go to? The Civil War that you fought lasted 5 years longer than everyone elses did. Sheesh!
BTW...it is tacky and it is fun and you need to keep your wallet in your pocket.

Agree It's tacky but not mandatory. Did stop there one night late about 15 years ago & the food was downright awfull

Im not sure but Ithink it has more to do with the writer being gay and from the NorthEast.. No one like sparklers as they are boring and well gay lol. Its a funny little gaudy place to stop stretch kill some time and whatever. nothing forced and $8 bucks for a reptile park isnt exspensive..How much does it cost to park in a garage in Boston or NY?? Think he might just need the gerbil removed from his a@#

I'm with you, there are far to many other places that cost ten times the amount you would spend at SOTB. If you have nothing good to say then keep it to yourself Mr. Brady. There was nothing forcing you to stop and for what it is worth ..you should have kept on driving. As for anyone else, stop if you want, if you believe Mr. Brady keep on moving on, don't want ya, don't need ya! I miss the Burma Shave signs and the SOTB signs are a sign of more friendly times. For the record I have never seen anyone held at gunpoint and forced to purchase anything.

Steve: yes you are correct that was the year Lee passed but that was not the point....re-read my post and you'll see what I was trying to bring out......you're a sore losing Johnny Reb too, huh?

I agree...leave the "South of the Border" people to do what they do best...entertain. They bring back the nostalgia that has long since been lost among the bohemoth theme parks of Florida, Tennessee, and the rest of the country. SOTB is an icon of times that have long since gone by the wayside...but it remains as a reminder of a more pleasant time in our lives.

Thank you for my memories, not much to do but still a lot of fun. For us old folk who still remember and still know the joy of life. A baby boomer and loving the trip.
