Wwe have been to the Outer Banks on 2 different occasions, and I can't wait to go back again. What we do is wait til the end of August, after the kiddies have gone back to school, you can get some fantastic "end of summer deals" at the "Sea Ranch" in Kill Devil Hills. I love the barrier islands, can't wait till we go back again. We are from S.C. we both hate Myrtle Beach, love Charleston and Beufort beaches, Fripp Island, & Edisto. My son lives in Florida, and the beaches there are actually prettier, meaning the water is more of a turquoisy blue, & the sand is whiter. But OBX is the best!!!!♥♥

You have to go to Elizabeth's Cafe & Winery in Duck. It is WONDERFUL. Every morsel is like a piece of heaven. It was vote in the top 25 restaurants in the US.
It isn't cheap and you will need a reservation. I love Outer Banks. Myrtle Beach has become so ...... pedestrian?

No one has mentioned the terrific restaurants! There are too many to list, but a dinner at Colington Cafe is a must. Also, take a ferry ride to Occrocke and lunch by the water, visit the charming town of Manteo with lunch at Full Moon Cafe ( a micro brewery). While on Manteo Island, go to Wanchese and buy some great shrimp and scallops to take home. You can get them individually flash frozen, ready for your freezer. Also on Manteo Island you can visit the Elizebethian Gardens. And, of course, take a visit to Duck and have lunch or dinner at any of their fine restaurants. The Corolla area has the Whalehead Club to tour and is next to Currituck Light.
