Uncontacted tribe discovered in the Amazon
Officials from Brazil's National Indian Foundation (Funai) have announced the discovery of another uncontacted tribe living deep inside the Amazon Jungle. The tribe is estimated to have a population of about 200 people who have continued to live in the same natural manner for centuries, untouched by the modern world.Evidence of the tribe first surfaced when researchers spotted a small clearing while reviewing satellite images of the Amazon. The clearing intrigued them enough to conduct a flyover of the region in April, which produced photographs that showed several small huts clustered together in the rainforest near a copse of banana trees. The images that were taken also provided enough data to allow Funai to estimate the size of the tribe.
The tribe is said to be just one of several living in the Vale do Javari region of the Amazon, which is amongst its most remote places on the planet. Researchers believe that there are as many as 14 uncontacted tribes still living in that area, with roughly 2000 people amongst them.
In recent years, it has been the policy of the Brazilian government to avoid contacting these tribes in remote regions and to work instead to preserve their environments. That will be the case with this most recently discovered community as well, although their lifestyle is ultimately threatened by a number of outside forces. For example, deforestation, mining, hunting, and numerous other environmental concerns are taking their toll on the Amazon, which could eventually have an impact on these tribes as well.
Still, I think it's amazing that there are people in remote places that have yet to be visited by outsiders. We really do live on an amazing planet.

Don't they need some "diversity"? Let's bus them to other areas, so they can meet other races...

Well this is interesting. Maybe thats exactly how the ufo aliens feel when they come to our planet for the first time. You people are saying the same exact thing. Now you know why they don't want to make contact with us.

I think they need Planned Parenthood. Must be seriously inbred.

Kiss 'em good-bye, they're toast. I just hope that it's mercifully swift. Damn.

Didn't the Brazilian government have a law to DO NOT CONTACT this people and leave them alone??????? WHY Funai....WHY are you going to tell the whole wide WORLD about finding them?? You are paid to PROTECT THEM ...Get it??? Leave these people ALONE. And do what you are supposed to do.

I have to agree with most of these comments. LEAVE THEM ALONE because I believe they may be healthier than those in the "civilized" world. They may not need what some people cannot live without. Hearing about an previously undiscovered tribe living in Africa ... gives new meaning to "back to basics".

I think these people are entitled to know the status of Lindsay Lohan's probation and who the Kardashian sisters are dating. It is sad to think that they will never know which couple won in the last edition of 'Dancing with the Stars'.

Great post! You hit that one out of the park. I just hope more peple read into it and see how shallow their live's have become. By the way, who did win??

Time for Obma to schedule a tribal fundraiser! Hey! Maybe they have stock in the Brazillian oil business that Obama wants to "exploit." Betcha George Soros would like to give them a grant..... and airhead Nancy Pelosi will definitely want to send them a FAT check from her bottomless pit. Better than studying Chinese prostitutes.

Tribes like these will end up inheriting the Earth.
Jerry Jun 23rd 2011 5:28PM
Lets hope the brazilian Govt is smart enough to put such a wide buffer zone around around the area where the tribe lives that the forest and mining industries and everyone else are kept away.

It's really too bad that this article is being posted because almost assuredly some religious group will feel obligated to somehow bring "salvation" to these wonderfully blessed folks who've been spared from contact with the modern world...hopefully, they're so far removed from civilization that it'll be a long while before they're "discovered" by the zealots who feel the need to impose their values upon everyone else....

you are absolutley right. But the fanatics are like cockroches. Nothing will stop them. ITS THEIR WAY OR NO WAY.
Kookie Jun 23rd 2011 6:09PM
Leave them alone. Don't try to contact them to study them and bring in the corrupt ways of the modern world. These people are happy in their own way and should be left alone. There probably are more tribes unknown to man that should be left alone too. Once the white man finds them, they try to change them and then its nothing but trouble.

Obama is planning a trip there so he can recruit 200 potential voters who know nothing about politics. Then require they join a union.

Read the book ' RIVER OF DARKNESS ' It's about when Spain was in search of gold in the Amazon, and the first Ship's to go the full lenght of the Amazon River. True story, and a good read. Among other thing's, It tells how brutal the Spanish were to some of the Indian's and how the Indian's of different tribe's all along the length of the river, defended their homeland, and fight the Spainiards the whole lenght of the river. The indian's had never seen a European before,or horse's gun's, swords , armor, even the boat's the Spainiard's built along the way. But, they fought back with bow and arrow's, spear's, club's and even attacked the Spanish boat's using their canoe's.

Don't tell Obama abut them. Otherwise, he will want to send millions in foreign aid .
Brian Jun 23rd 2011 6:25PM
One more thing, I very much agree with leaving them alone, but the sad part is, that the cat is out of the bag now, and it is only a matter of time before their live's will be changed forever. Just that airplane fly over has had an affect on them already. Only time will tell.
