Baby stuff can certainly take up a lot of space! The Nest looks awesome - for a newborn. But we can't imagine it working past when baby can pull up. Which means it will only work for less than a year. That might make sense for your situation. If you'd like it to last longer than that, we LOVE our Phil & Ted's travel cot - it's extremely lightweight (6lbs), and sturdy and large enough to accommodate a toddler. We still use ours with our 2-year-old and have one for our 6-month-old, too.
We completely agree that the "perfect" stroller does not exist. Strollers are like shoes. Hiking boots are great for hiking. Flip flops are a life saver in grungy showers. There's no way to replace all your shoes with one pair that truly does it all and it's the same for strollers. We have an UPPAbaby Vista (comes with a bassinet, great suspension that can handle rough roads, easy to steer one-handed and HUGE basket that doubles as a shopping cart). We love it at home and on road trips. But we fly with our UPPAbaby G-Lites. Yes, plural. We now own 2. Lightest umbrella stroller on the market and the padding on the seat velcro's off and is machine washable. With a mesh seat underneath, so you're never without a stoller. No recline - so it's 6-months+, but it steers with one hand, stands on its own and has an ENORMOUS sun shade. LOVE it.
The wrap style carriers can work very well for a newborn, but babies have an awful way of growing up way too fast! ;) The Ergo will let you continue to go stroller-free right through the toddler years.
Good luck with all your choices! It's a whole new world, isn't it? Welcome to parenthood - it's the best "journey" we've ever taken! Congratulations!
