Experience America this summer with Andrew Burmon

One of my colleagues once nicknamed his father's 2000 Miata "The Penis Extension". In hindsight, "Extension" could have been changed to "Reduction," but I give him credit for trying. And the guy had a point, anyone with an emotional engagement with their vehicle needs to name it -- it's a way of connecting and making the journey personal, or, if you're lucky a way to win a phone (details below.)
As Americans, we tend to grow attached to our cars, which isn't surprising considering its easy to put a couple hundred thousand miles behind the wheel of one auto. Emotional bonds are bound to be made, identities defined, and nicknames assigned.
Which is all to say I need to name my ride.

I had a volvo 240 over the years it lost its grill and broken tail lights and dented doors but it ran and ran.
Whenever i was in the city everybody stood clear because they could see this car had nothing to loose and would take any other car off the road just to keep going ahead.
Fot that reason we called our volvo " the volvo of Doom"

My 1st ride was a 1969 El Camino in 1980. We live in Michigan so we called it the
El Carusto.

Nobody should name your car for you. It needs to be something personal re: you and your car. For instance, I named my (at that time 5 yr old) 1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible "Nurse Betty" (thank you Renee Zellwegger) because, 1. I always wanted a convertible, 2. it was crazy to get one in the NW (rain) and at my stage in life, 3. it was good for my mental health, and 4. bucketlist! And, by the way, I love the sound of rain on a cloth roof -- very zen!

A friend at work had a large green station wagon that her teenage kids called "The Pickle". She would pick up the kids at school and they were embarassed. They would plead, "Mama, please don't pick us up in the pickle!"

I gave my Ford Flex a custom license plate that reads WQFT. It stands for Wagon Queen Family Truckster as from the National Lampoon original Vacation movie. My favorite line from the movie, and the one that fits this car perfectly is "You think you hate it now, wait 'til you drive it!"

I call my car Guzz, short for guzzler. It is a 2004 Ford Taurus and it loves, loves, loves gas. 21 miles to the gallon, my butt! This car gets 15 at most, and I am always filling the gas tank.
Haley Jun 14th 2011 4:53PM
My first car was an early 90's bright red Ford Tempo affectionately named "the Red Rocket" then later on, I drove my mom's 2001 purple Plymouth Voyager aka the "Riordan Roadster" or "Haley's Purple Love Machine"

You can't ask other people to name your car. You will regret it later. You know what I will offer a name call it REGRET. Because soon you will Regret buying a Ford Explorer. When gas is $5 plus a gallon.
