probably much better than the $13 plain hot dog I had in Nantucket

While I realize the cost of living on either coasts or in a large, metro area such as Detroit, is higher, I wouldn't pay $20 for a deli sandwich and drink no matter where I was. I'd go buy fresh deli meats at the store, take it home with a fresh package of hoagies and make my own for a whole lot less!

Oh Dee...you're complete lack of class is showing. To make a blanket statement like that is really stupid and incorrect. Stereotyping a group of people is also stupid and wrong. I've worked in Jewish delis and they were great, the owners were good people and the food was good. In most places like that you'll get alot of regular customers. People don't keep coming back to a restaurant if it's as bad as you make every deli out to be. Take your insipid self and go out and get an education and a life.

Its really quite simple,if you paid $15.00 for any sandwich you got ripped off big time.

Hey, 2 weeks ago we had 3 corned beef sandwiches and 3 sodas at Katz's Deli in New York. The bill was $59.00

If you don't like Jewish Deli's or Jews in general, you can just kiss their asses :(

Where is the picture of the sandwich? You expect us to judge by looking at the building!

As a native and expat Michagander I'll say Zingermans is DEFINITELY worth it! Not just for the amazing and GIGANTIC sandwiches (feeds two easily), but for the amazing selection of gourmet food both international and domestic. I order from their catalog a couple of times a year to try new and hard to find delicacies.

&15 seems a bit much but I have noticed several places charging $8 to $0
for a hamburger here in KC

I sure wish I had a reason to go to Ann Arbor!
gred Jun 10th 2011 3:13AM
Wow! $59 for 3 sandwiches and 3 drinks?? I don't think so
Tony Jun 10th 2011 4:04AM
Look at the name of the deli. That explains why there OVER price...
Anyone who would pay 15.00 for a sandwish is a fool.
Jack Keshner Jun 10th 2011 5:41AM
It can't match up against "Kats cornbeef on club with mayo.
in NYC

Sorry, but this article does nothing for an arguement without a picture that shows us what size this meal is. What really ruined it for me was the mention of yellow mustard. If you can't get it with spicy brown, it's better to leave the mustard off the order entirely.

15.00 is a bargain.........Try Katz's Deli in NYC.......Monster sandwiches, melt in your mouth pastrami.......I could it this every week

As a displaced New Yorker, I grew up watching Katz's Delicatessen sandwiches go from $1.65 in the 1960s to over $15 these days, so I've long ago gotten over my sticker shock. But Katz's remains the standard! If you can't put out a pastrami on rye as good as Katz's, you ought to adjust your price down from there. In Ann Arbor, a Zingy sandwich looks like the real thing and cost like the real thing, but alas, it's not the real thing. It's a flavor issue. What is real and special about Zingermann's is the world class grocery store--they really do a great job in bringing the wide food world to Ann Arbor. Some think the Bread Basket is the best corned beef in SE Michigan, but the deli closest to New York standard is the Star Deli at 12 Mile and Telegraph in Southfield. Very Jewish; very New York!
