25 Haunting Shipwrecks Around the World
"Fellow blogger Tom Moran from Urban Ghosts inspired this post. His excellent article on 'Ship Graveyards: Abandoned Ships, Boats and Shipyards' sent me on a quest to find some incredible photographs of shipwrecks around the world.
The United Nations estimates that there are more than 3 million shipwrecks on the ocean floor [Source: Wikipedia]. These once mighty vessels, both sunken and beached, are a haunting reminder that nothing lasts forever. These beautiful ships used to rule the seas they traveled. Now they serve as a window into our past."
In the gallery below, 25 Haunting Shipwrecks From Around The World, there are shipwrecks everywhere from the Canary Islands to Grand Cayman to Portugal in all shapes and sizes.

3 MILLION shipwrecks?! That's insane! I just finished looking through the gallery and those pictures, while beautiful, are definitely creepy. Is there a way to find out the story behind each one? For example, the name of the ship and what happened?

Retire the nationl debts, of the entire world... go get them. They can all be floated with compressors, bottles of compressed air, inflatable baloons, etc... what a treasure hunt...!!! Where's Jacque Cousteau, et al ....???

Edgar, you make it sound so easy. Why don't you show us how easy it is and raise the Titanic, which is down 2/12 miles, or how about the WW II USS Yorktown which is sunk in 3 miles of water? Take your compressors, inflatable ballons, etc. Go get em, tiger!

I'll probably disappoint you, but Cousteau is dead ((
It's quite interesting to know their story, why do they stay on surface without any soul aboard?

Who even suggested that raising these wrecks, whole, or, in pieces, would be a walk in the park...? "Go get em tiger," is talking to himself; defeated, without trying; as if, trying to inspire, claiming the resource, would be a bad thing, worthy of such derision... Better that the govern mentals of the world, find a way to clean up their act, and, instead of being in the business, of murdering each others' citizens, in wars, and, with enough of their heads, put together, they might come up with one whole brain; and, figure out how to clean up the planet, and, put their toys away. As for the Titanic, or any other, which, found their way down there, if, they were full of gold, you can bet, driveby looters, would already have looted them... And, air, to displace water, wouldn't make for buoyancy... use pingpong balls, Tiger... Bon Voyage.....see ya, when you come up for air... Edgrrr...

Paul....as if, where's JacqueCousteau, when we need him, mattering that he's dead...? Where's the real Abraham Lincoln, when we need him, to displace that windbag, in the whitehouse; float that glib tongued BURROck, whitehouse, jackass, down there, and let him float, those ships, before he scuttles the one we're all on... see "Tiger," for advice.. And, why does this ship of state, float, with all those empty heads in Washington' if not because of the buoyancy, of all those empty heads... And, finally, Compressors, are for airing up the tanks; not, sinking them. Why would youse guys, ridicule, what I said, while admitting it; that, you are not helping...??? Edgrrr...
