US map of stereotypes

We here at Gadling love maps and infographics, so we're enjoying this tongue-in-cheek US map of stereotypes, ranging from "rainy hipsters" in the Northwest, to "old peeps" down in Florida by blogger and artist Haley Nahman. We're a bit puzzled over some of the stereotypes such as the "fashion bloggers" in the Carolinas, but can't argue with the "mountains and meadows and maybe some animals" in Montana and the Dakotas. Hawaii and Alaska aren't included on this map, but I'd guess something involving "hula and LOST" and "Eskimos and strip clubs." The artist is a "life of the party" Californian and seems to be partial to food and animal descriptions. Which stereotype of the US do you hail from?

I love this!
I would love to put one of these together of Stereotypical FOODs from these regions too!

Actually, Gallagher did just that in one of his specials (The Bookkeeper, if I remember correctly). He took a huge canvas and threw food at it to create the states; pea soup in Washington, tarter sauce in Maine, soy sauce in California, hot chili in Texas, etc.

Formally "People who make cheese" and currently "Snow."
I don't agree with the Michigan stereotype, it should just be "Lake People" where Wisco should be "Drunk people who make cheese."

You are misreading 'Wisco' that says Cows Cows Cows they just ran all the words together. I saw wisco too when I first read it. I don't agree with Ohio. I live in Ohio I rarely see horses even when driving in the country which I live in a very rural city that is surrounded by country and I don't see horses but I see cows everywhere. But I guess that is the point of stereotype that are wrong.

I got a pretty good kick out of this. According to the map, I'd be rich. Yeah, I wish! Though there are a good number of wealthy Americans up here, I am most definitely not one of them but I have an excuse, my family comes from Puerto Rico!

Didn't that Eminem commercial explain that we in Michigan are not lake people...we are car people.

being a jersey shore native (hobbies include surfing and swimming, not GTL) when i first saw nj was labeled as snooki i was upset. then i read serial killers in the mid-south region. i guess i shouldnt be complaining...
sal the fish Apr 11th 2011 10:25PM
I`d rather have the serial killers then those so called "shore" a-holes. And I also am in Jersey.
Chris Apr 12th 2011 4:28AM
Ditto, while i may be currently living in Wisconsin, i am from Point Pleasent and our house is built right on the shoreline. The whole cast of that (can we even call it a show?) should be marched into the streets, bound together, and then mercilessly stung by ants/bees/ flys, THEN covered in honey and BBQ sauce and set loose in upper Washington state to fend for themselves from the Wolves and Bear.
So graphic yet i hope no body can find a reason to hate on this XD

I live in the Carolinas and the Fashion Bloggers stereotype is a new one for me but in any case it seems pretty accurate to me!
Cali Apr 11th 2011 8:34PM
Pretty accurate! I'm from Texas and yes ma'am and yes sir are definitely something I say atleast 5 times a day. Haha.

Californian don't party that much, @New Jersey=Snooki :D
AKMama Apr 11th 2011 9:12PM
I am very disappointed to see they don't include the entire US. Alaska and Hawaii are states as well! Looks like someone could use some education!

I find it ironic the artist (who's stereo typed as a life of the party) decided such a ..positive stereo type for themselves considering cali ISNT the life of the party but more 'DO anything for a buck', or 'The mold on the sandwich', or ' Self Servers' among others...but they charmingly put 'life of the party' HA further example of how Californians act....'self rightious biggots'

@Digi - Good God - not frigging YOU again! Get over yourself...it's just a tongue in cheek little map. Every time I turn around, you are on these boards, whining and complaining and just in general, being a kill joy. Go the fuck away....

I agree. Fuck California. They are the only people in this country that think they are so cool just because of where they are from. They cant even laugh at themselves cus they take themselves too seriously. They elected the terminator governor.c'mon!! You know what they call someone in california that reads and enjoys art. They call them New Yorkers. They should change it from "Life of the Party" to "Bloated alcoholic living in his parents beach house", or maybe just "Look at me! Am I pretty?". The state motto should be "come for the nose job, stay for the blow." Their state flowers are pretty, but they have no personality. The only good thing to come out of California was my stepmoms boobs. And tomorrow, we will be bloggin about something else while someone in LA attempts to sue me.

@Jackie All i can say is 'oooo WAAAAA', suck it up and like it! Meanwhile if you have a problem with me, then take it up with someone who actually gives a flying f what you think...
