Downhill bike race in Chile is insanity at its finest
I have seen insanity and it happens on the streets of Valparaiso, Chile. The Valparaiso Cerro Abajo Race is a legendary urban bike race and is more extreme than skydiving out of an exploding F-18 piloted by Charlie Sheen - while chugging a 2 liter of Mountain Dew. The rider must brave jumps, stray dogs, and flights of stairs along the steep downhill path. The first person perspective provided by the excellent helmet cam lets us take in every glorious and frightening detail. Do yourself a favor and watch this one in full screen mode.
Also, check out this roundup from the 2011 race, which was won by Filip Polc.

The "white guy" while a douche is an employee for UCI..... probably wants to get this guy on some circuit ride or to sign him to a deal. Frank F*ck OFF! You just keep trolling internet sites to try and insult people..... this guy is amazing who are you to downplay his accomplishment. Get on your three wheeled trike and get me some milk and cookies.... your Mom's hungry

I'm guessing he was working with the race organizers in some capacity. The UCI doesn't normally just "show up" to events, as far as I know. It actually looked to me like he was suggesting that the rider wear more protection (like a full-face helmet) next time...

the only way that race could be improved is to remove all breaks on the bikes.

Did anyone else get a stiff neck watching this from trying to look up and see more of the road ahead?

Yes, constantly. As a motorcycle rider I kept thinking, "Head up! Head up!". More photos and an interesting article here: http://dirt.mpora.com/news/filip-polc-wins-2011-valparaiso-cerro-abajo.html#comment-76236

My name is Frank and I'm a complete douchebag. Why do I feel a professional mountain biker is putting himself in needless danger? Dont know. But I also think the same about pro NFL, NBA, etc. It's all so scary and uneccessary. I'm almost as ridiculous as the dog lover. Really? Putting a dog in danger? Why would the race promoters throw a dog in the mix? What am I doing on this site anyway? I'm going back to the Dora the Explora page where only the monkey gets hurt.

Frank: You've got style and class.
Knuckleheads and jerks abound. Appears as if they don't bother you and that's a good thing.
Don't know about the Dora the Explorer bit, however ....that comment's a little too self-deprecating. I do get it, though.

Then he has to pedal back up?

I don't like it ONE bit... when I was a kid I could have done that ride, but I would NOT sacrifice hurting that dog for such stupid glory! And for what? I am still thinking of that poor dog.... very upsetting to me, it does not take anything special to do this... except maybe youth..... stupid, stupid, stupid.

Motocross..PHfffffffft From now on let ChileCross prevail. Hopefully AndesCross will be next with a bag of coca leaves as a prize before the race and extra dogs.

The supermen that race this race are amazing bike handelers. So I'm pretty sure they can take it. Just think as the dog as a extra optical. Oh and BTW they sign a release form to race.

Awesome video, I would love to ride that course. I'm not sure the guy with the UCI cap was recruiting it's not World Cup standard length, more like an exhibition.

Would have been tough, but he should have tried to kick that f*ckin' dog as he rode by.
