Video of the Day: The Difference between the United Kingdom, Great Britain and England
Have you been to England? What about Great Britain? How about the United Kingdom? Perhaps you just have no clear idea how to use those terms properly. Lest you tick off an Irishman or embarrass yourself at a pub, you may want to take a gander at the video above that quickly and humorously explains just what England, Great Britain and the UK are.
There's no shame in not understanding the difference between these three terms. Heck, I learned a view things from this video and have Gadling's own Jeremy Kressmann to thank for that. He tweeted this video last week. See, it pays to follow us Gadling folks on the ol' internets.
If you have a great travel video that you think we might enjoy, share the link in a comment below. We could feature it as our next Video of the Day!

Not only did I find this extremely informative, it was quite entertaining...how much coffee did that narrator have?
Thanks for shedding light on the mysteries of the UK and its possessions, overseas territories, countries, dependencies, islands, commonwealths, etc. Loved every minute of it!

This is hysterical, particularly that the ironic humour it is peppered with will be lost on the majority of the people who are coming to this video to gain accurate information.
Hint to viewers, the video has just enough facts in it to make you think it is designed to be informative, but the rest is totally ironic :)

England is one of four constituent countries of the United Kingdom.
Great Britain is the Island on which the countries of England, Scotland and Wales are located. It is the largest island in the British Isles. (The next most notable being the Island of Ireland). Contrary to popular belief "Great" actually refers to the physical size of the island as opposed to the power (past or present) of the country.
The United Kingdom (full name the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) is a state which consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
As stated above, the first answer is wrong. The country now known as the Republic of Ireland has not been part of the United Kingdom since the creation of the "Irish Free State" in 1922. Prior to 1922 the full title of the UK was the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

Here is a similar story
"England" is sometimes, wrongly, used in reference to the whole United Kingdom, the entire island of Great Britain (or simply Britain), or indeed the British Isles. This is not only incorrect but can cause offence to people from other parts of the UK.

Those damn Scots and Welsh have no sense of humour...
