Questioning the stated year of 1989 as the appearance of Splash Mt....seem to remember a ride there that was similar long befor that and remember taking kids for its ride thru the mountain long BEFORE 1989...Kids all grown now and scattered but they do continue to take theirs to the various Disney's but were most familar with the Anaheim original (they can include France and Japan in their collective memories these years later as well as Florida, several times over)
We use to do the yearly passes that allowed multiple opportunities for revisiting thru the year/years. And living in the "region", lol, remember too the nightly firework show at 9pm, depending on cloud cover, even partially viewable from our more beachside residence location. Admit to NOT visiting in recent years..was happiest in visiting "off season" when crowds were NOT a significant problem and remember well a number of visits at times where a day included LONG waits and long lines at each to the point where a day that began EARLY and ended LATE , perhaps EIGHT rides and made do with food and etc and people watching. It use to be a pleasurerable family outing and they kept the "visions" tidy/clean/etc and the food at least edible/affordable...these days ? Too expensive on too many levels and hence, rare to even consider a visit.
