Competition heats up for world's tallest hotel
First was the Armani Hotel in the Burj Khalifa, then the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, and now, one Shanghai hotel group says they're on track to build the world's tallest hotel.Interstate Hotels & Resorts will manage Shanghai Tower J-Hotel, which they claim will become the world's tallest hotel upon its completion in 2014. The building stands 121 stories and 2,073 feet, making it the second tallest hotel in the world. The hotel portion will occupy floors 84 through 110 and offer 258 guestrooms.
In Hong Kong, the Ritz-Carlton is currently planning their opening of the next tallest hotel in the world, which is slated for March 2011. The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong takes over floors 112 to 118 of Hong Kong's International Commerce Centre, but according to the Interstate Hotels & Resorts group, the actual height of the J-Hotel is taller. The Ritz-Carlton is said to stand at 1,588 feet while the J-Hotel tops out at 1,781 feet.
Having seen The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong first hand on a recent visit to Hong Kong, I can attest to its height and superiority.
Seems we may have to get a few rulings on this one when the time comes to open the J-Hotel in 2014.

Well, which is it, tallest hotel or second tallest? This article contradicts itself, several times. It says the J-Hotel will be the tallest hotel when completed in 2014. Then it says it will top out at 2,073 ft., making it the 2nd-tallest hotel. Finally, it says the finished height will be 1,781 feet!! What a lousy piece of reporting. Three contradictions in two paragraphs -- better hope this "writer" doesn't ever get any assignments to cover any real news.

I agree. This is a poorly written and edited article.

This should be called the world's stupidest builders instead. One day, one of those natural catastrophic disasters that we see so frequently on the news will happen in their area and it will all come tumbling down. Spend your efforts on something worthwhile like helping people that have no place to live!

Tallest huh? No mention of if it is aircraft proof! Muslims seem to like to knock down tall buildings!

George W Bush knocked down the WTC you should do some research. Just don't follow the media and educate yourself.

Prophet Muhammad - sallallâhu ’alayhi wa sallam - said: "The Hour will not come until the following events have come to pass: people will compete with one another in constructing high buildings...

and they all came tumbling down

Grif, educate yourself. In 1997, while Clinton was in office, muslims tried to drop them from the parking garage, and failed. The 2001 attack took some four years to plan, also during Clinton's term. Nineteen Muslims took over 4 aircraft, one missed it's mark of the Congress, and hit the Penagon. A second was taking-back briefly, crashing the jet into a Penn. field. The other two, struck TWC. Killing over 3,000 ppl in the blds and rescure teams. So tire of idiots blaming GW for stuff, when their own party, COULD HAVE PREVENTED IT!!

Give it a break John. The Bush administration refuse to acknowledge the security briefings, when they took over; It is foolish to blame either administration; but facts are facts, it happened on GWB's watch. Is he to blame NO; but IT HAPPENED ON HIS WATCH.

you know nothing but I do
John Dec 27th 2010 11:10AM
Simon, you mention "refuse to acknowledge the security briefings", what about the several times CLINTON REFUSED to pick-up Osama, before all this happened? Yes, he had info, reason, and oppitunity to do so, a number of times, even before the USS Cole incident!
