I have to say that not all of our accommodation has been 'posh' – we had a tiny flat in Montmartre and pretty basic digs in NYC for instance, while others have been surprisingly affordable. And yes, there has been some glam ones!
Also, many of the places we're staying at sleep at least 4 people and some up to 8 or more. It works out pretty cost-effective and more budget travellers should look at holiday rentals rather than a hostel or cheap hotel when you're staying more than a few days in a destination.
