Win a Marmot Variant jacket with Polartec
Not everyone dreads the arrival of winter. Here at Gadling, we actually get pretty excited about seeing our breath, making the most of snow days and sipping hot toddies. That's because we understand that there are two keys to enjoying winter. First, dress appropriately. A good coat goes a long way towards getting you to embrace some chilly air. Second, take advantage of all the fun activities that winter has to offer. Why hunker down indoors until Easter when you can get outside for a snowball fight, ice skate on a local pond or simply take a walk on a clear winter day? Hot cocoa always tastes better after some time spent outside. So, to help you dress the part and stay active all winter, we're giving away a Marmot Variant jacket with Polartec Power Stretch. The Marmot Variant jacket is perfect for people who want to be on the move even when the temperatures begin to dip. It keeps your core warm while the Polartec Power Stretch allows for full range of motion. Whether you're walking to class, snowshoeing through the woods or simply cleaning off your snowed-in car, the Marmot Variant will keep you warm and comfortable.
We have one men's medium in "Vapor Blue/Black" to give away to a very lucky Gadling reader. All you need to do to enter is leave a comment below sharing your favorite outdoor winter memory. Maybe you built a massive snow fort. Perhaps you raced your sled down the highest hill in town. Or, if you're like my grandfather, you just had to walk five miles to and from school barefoot (uphill both ways, of course).
Whatever it is, just tell us your favorite winter activity memory in a comment on this post and we'll select one respondent at random to win the Marmot Variant jacket with Polartec Power Stretch.
- The comment must be left before Friday, November 19 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
- You may enter only once.
- One winner will be selected in a random drawing.
- The winner will receive a Vapor Blue/Black Marmot Variant jacket in a men's medium (valued at $140).
- Click here for complete Official Rules.
- Open to legal residents of the 50 United States, including the District of Columbia who are 18 and older.

My favorite winter memory from childhood is of the annual trek to chop down our Christmas tree. I grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska, where it was always quite cold around Christmas, and my dad, brother and I would set off on snowmobile to the woods near our house to get the tree. I can remember on more than one occasion my feet got very cold and my dad would stop the snowmobile and tuck my feet under his arms to warm them up for me. When we got home with the tree, we'd spend some time performing cosmetic surgery on the spindly local black spruce, drilling holes to insert extra branches so it didn't look too Charlie Brown-ish.

Hiking through the snow with mom and sis a mile just to get a gallon of milk - with not a creature in sight- in New York City!

It did not snow much where I grew up, but one winter we got a huge snowfall. I had been reading Calvin and Hobbes comics for years, so all of Calvin's snow adventures were lived out in those few days. Crazy snowmen and writing "Do a barrel roll" (for airplanes) huge in the snow are what I remember the most. Also, I did not have snow boots, so my mom put ziploc bags on my feet with rubber bands. :)

My favorite memory is heading down to the local pond when it was frozen over and just having a blast slip sliding away!

we had gotten over two feet of snow and my sister and I dug ourselves out of our house and walked in a winter wonderland to our cousin's house a couple of miles away to play with them.

My favorite winter memory is of sled riding with my dad at a park near my house. He was a mechanic at the time and brought home the BIGGEST tire inner-tube I had ever seen (bear in mind I was probably 5 at the time, so these things seemed huge to me). We used it on the sled hill and I had a blast with it. Best "sled" ever.

Quite a wuss with cold temps so I'd have to say sitting around the fire while camping!

My favorite memory is taking my daughter skiing for the first time. She was all jitters and on the verge of tears when we started, but by the end she was bombing down the slopes in a rush to get to the bottom so she could ride the "big swing" back up to the top.

My favorite memory is from my first trip to Tahoe, Squaw Valley. Because the weather degraded so much we were only allowed to Ski during the day and the back country areas were closed due to gusts up to 100 mph. Once the lifts closed for the day my friends and I stayed out by the lifts and decided to build our own snowman. We rolled up balls so big that we could barely lift them. In the end we had a 6ft tall snowman. And when we finally left people watching from the nearby lodge restaurant were applauding our effort as we walked by. =D

going camping and taking a 45* bag by accident and then almost freezing to death at nights was quite the experience. Not one I'd love to repeat, but it was actually really fun.

Sleigh riding with my sister! It was always tons of fun crashing into those bales of hay at the bottom of the hill- no matter how cold it was. :)

My fav. winter memory is waking to snow drifts in southern middle TN. Yep! That never happens. We made caves, snowmen, and flew down hills on handmade sleds. Such fun!

my favorite winter memory is waking up early and spending the whole day on the mountain snowboarding with my cousins

I'm a fan of just walking around, shuffling through the snow! This year, one of my best friends and I are going to try out snowshoeing and I might do a little cross-country skiing. :)

My favorite winter memory is growing up in Brooklyn, NY and going into Manhattan to places like Rockefeller Center. There is something ever-so-magical about New York City with all it's bright lights covered with a fresh coat of white snow!

One of my favorite winter memories was actually quite awful. I come from a large family and my father would recruit all his kids to help with various needs around the house. I was recruited to help with closing the pool. We had this huge oversized pool and it was a few months overdue for closing during this Chicago winter. As we had just finished up putting the winter cover on it, my dad pushed me in.
It was awful. And miserably cold. But my dad had a great laugh and my mom babied me for days with hot cocoa and treats. It was probably worth nearly freezing to death!
