Hi Readers,

Thanks for all of your comments. I just wanted to provide an update, because I'm getting some posts that the road is open. I just checked, and the MAIN road from Solola to Panajachel is closed until January as reported, for repairs.

There are alternate routes to the lake, which are the ones used by the tour buses. These are the same roads that have the travel advisories (whether or not these are exaggerated, I can't say). We've got some great comments from readers who know the area well, so have a look. Whatever you decide to do, safe travels, and have a great holiday.
