Abandoned Six Flags New Orleans video is creeping us out

Six Flags New Orleans, which closed as Hurricane Katrina approached in 2005 and has never reopened. The sign outside the park still announces that it's "CLOSED FOR STORM."
The theme park was in New Orleans' Ninth Ward, one of the hardest hit areas during Katrina and the flooding after the storm. Though many of the rides still stand, Six Flags says that saltwater from the flood has corroded them to the point that they cannot be saved.
The only ride to survive the flood - Batman: The Ride, which was elevated above most of the floodwaters - was refurbished and moved to Six Flags Fiesta Texas in 2008.
After viewing this video of the rotting theme park, I'm wondering why the City of New Orleans, which owns the land, isn't renting it out as a location for horror movies. Louisiana photographer Teddy Smith shot this video in October, with permission from the City of New Orleans.
As Gizmodo notes, you almost expect to see a horde of zombies come ambling through a scene or two.

It reminds me of another old abandoned amusement park in New Orleans, Lincoln Park. If any of it still exist and movie makers want a real 'haunted' amusement park they should see out the remains (bones?) of Lincoln Park!!!

How awesome is this place? http://gpswatchinfo.com I would love to go there and walk around. I am sure it was really fun during Halloween last week.

Sad to see the park in such bad shape. Interesting to see that despite the park's storm-related ill fate, it didn't stop some of NO's fine citizens from vandalizing what was left. That's even sadder.

Tax write off is correct! Two of Dan Snyder's bad investments - Six Flaggs and the Redskins (well maybe not the Redskins - they may not be winning games, but the fans continue to support them, and they make a lot of money).

No surprise to me, this falls on the city goverment, which nobody holds accountable, they reelected Negan again, all those hotel taxes, rent a car taxes, levi taxes, parish taxes but you see nothing done with the interstructure. If the people don't care enough to whole their politicans accountable, please don't use anymore of my tax money to put in that sink hole. New Orlens in the rearview mirror is the way to go, why Essence keeps going back there is a mystery to me. Nevermore, nevermore!!!

Slow, plodding and guess what I can take a camera and photograph your house slowly, put "eerie" music in it and get the same result. Why is it still closed? Anything from local regulations, to to expensive to repair or, it never was profitable, so this gave them the opportunity to leave it closed.

Definitely agree, great setup for horror movie! Reminds me of some scenes out of 28 days and 28 weeks... sequel in america?

Seems like so much of the stuff could still be sold off to people. Also looks like there is quite a bit of scrap metal that could be salvaged.

IF WHERE YOU LIVED ALL YOUR LIFE WAS SUDDENLY DESTROYED WOULD YOU WANT SOMEONE TO SAY THESE NEGATIVE COMMENTS. IM SURE YOU LIVE IN AN AREA WHERE NO NATURAL DISASTERS EVER HAPPEN.

That urine smell you may have noticed in the French Quarter is from the tourists that come to town, go to Bourbon St., drink way too much, and have no concern for the people and property here. Locals don't pee in the streets; we have more respect for our city than that.
Also, Madsahader, the above-ground mausoleums are not built due to the city being on a swamp, contrary to popular belief. There are traditional in-ground graves in the city. Quite a few, in fact. T
he tradition of above ground burial was established near the end of the eighteenth century. The Governor of Louisiana was from Spain and his Spanish/European influence was felt at all levels of New Orleans society, including the funerary arts. At the time, in Spain, it was fashionable to be buried above ground, and New Orleanians, despite the fact that they were on the edge of the frontier of the New World, wanted to adopt current trends and fashions.

Is the "City of New Orleans" making any effort at all to re-purpose the theme park? It seems an appalling waste to let it simply sit there.

yeah nut to capitalize on a giant death scene will not set easy plus the actors could be killed for real due to debris or deadly mold, ewe.

A Ghost? At 3.39 of the above footage you can clearly see someone walking by inside the 1st window on the right side of the footage........

I think that is a piece of glass. From the broken window he is filming through.

I went to New Orleans for the first time back in April. I was a little weary about going but I am so glad I did. Of all the places I have visited that is the one on top of my list that I can't wait to go again. If the city was not in a "fish bowl" I would so move there. Loved everything about that city.
