i totally forgot! I had no luggage during the layover! Since it was originally cleared for an int'l flight, they held it in a secure area at the airport and would not release it. 2 days of travel, same clothes, no toiletries other than what the hotel provided. Thanks Delta

Three months after 9/11, flying home for my brother's wedding, a cruise and Chistmas, I got to the airport the requested 2 hours ahead, but checked in and went through security in 20 minutes. Once boarded the flight was delayed, the captain said they just need a screwdriver and they we'd be gone. Not. I ended up the next morning taking a flight and just making it...since it was so easy in the afternoon, I thought it would be easy in the morning. Not.
The next trip, one suitcase was lost and we kept going to the airport hoping it would be there. No luck. Finally, we made it to the port just before the terminal closed, unloaded the car, parked it and got on the ship through the crew gangway 10 minutes before the ship sailed. Missed the welcome aboard champagne and shrimp cocktail.
The next, flying COS to LSV thru DIA, flight COS to DIA cancelled and they put us on bus. Not a lot of help from the 5/6 people getting us on the bus. No help in DIA, we had to transfer our own luggage from the bus even though it was already checked. Made my first flight because it had been delayed. But since I hadn't taken the second, the cancelled my return flights from LSV and had to rebook them. I found this out when I went to get my boarding pass in LSV.

A friend of mine won a free trip for 4 to the Bahamas and asked if my girlfriend & I would like to join them. Of course I would like to take a free trip, so off we went. We learn that there is a $99 dollar fee person ($400) for the boat ride, not bad so we pay for it. When we get to the boat there was a $40 per person fee for customs so another $160. We upgraded the hotel for $35 dollars per night per room so $210. When we get to the hotel we get another fee of $15 per person per night so another $180. The hotel was disgusting roaches of both kinds were found in our room, then left on the floor by the cleaning lady with the rusty shopping cart, gangsters sitting on a wall by the pool, the lawn chairs to lay out by the pool were chained to the railing on the pool so you couldn't move or steal them I guess. We had our drinks delivered to the wrong table and they wanted to charge us for them, no ketchup for a cheeseburger, the fans didn't work, horrid service all around. Now I have been to the Bahamas before and it was nothing like this. So all in all we spent $950 for us to go on the free trip to the Bahamas and that doesn't include the spending money. Getting off the ship I watch the baggage handler toss & break the handle off my suit case which they gave me a form to fill out and they would call, never heard from them. By far the worst vacation ever, I'm sure Capital One could send me on a much better vacation.

Left Miami to Costa Rica, got to Airport was told my birth certificate didn't match my drivers license. Paid thirty dollars to get on plane. Got there, no room for us. new room overlooked a drainage ditch. The air-conditioner did not work in the room. The plumbing was very poor, my husband had to help the man fix it. Went whitewater rafting my husband got knocked out of the boat and got his foot lodged in a branch while still under water. Rented a car and it started falling apart on us. Seat springs broke, wipers quit, windows quit, no air. Couldn't put windows up in all the rain storms. After 10 days we were going home, got to the Airport to find out our plane had left 3 hours earlier. Our Travel agent never let us know about the change. Sitting in the Airport waiting to go and the man comes with a mirror on a stick, what ya doing, oh we just had a bomb scare and we are checking under the seats. 4hrs. later we are on our way, after security emptied our suitcases all over the airport. Back to Fla. to our very mad driver, no one told him about the 4hr. difference either. At least he waited.

On Nov.8, 2008, I booked a flight thru Priceline.com, on Continental Airlines to visit my Daughter, Son in law and grandson the week of December 12 -19, 2008.
My Flight to MO. was uneventful. My return trip, however, was extremely eventful.
My original Itinerary supposed to be Flight # 2585 from STL to EWR on Friday Dec 19, 2008 and Flight # 3052 from EWR to BDL. When I went to print my boarding passes at 9:30pm on Dec. 18, 2008, I noticed that my flight from EWR to BDL had been changed to 8:15am Dec. 20, 2008, on flight #CO8658. I was a bit perturbed; because I knew I was scheduled to work on Saturday Dec. 20th. I tried calling the 1-800 customer service number, only to hear an automated voice stating “We are unable to take your right now, please call back later”. When I finally got through, another automated voice stated that the current wait time was 20-30 mins. I was promptly placed on hold for 1 hour and then was disconnected. I went to bed and set my alarm for 3:50am and resumed calling the 1-800 customer service number, I was on hold 2 more times for 1 hour each and disconnected both times. The automated voice continued telling me that wait time was 20-30 mins. While I was on hold, I checked the status of my original flight and found that this flight had been canceled, which led me to believe that was the reason for the change in my itinerary.
When I arrived at the STL Continental ticket counter to inquire about the change in my Itinerary, the ticket agent, Jennifer Bacon, who was very helpful, was unable to answer the whys, but did explain that it was weather related. She tried to get me on another flight via standby, however the local ARMY base had flooded the terminal with boot camp and tech school personnel on their 3 week leaves home for Christmas and the holidays. When I enquired why the military was taking precedence for the standby seats. The gate attendant informed me that, these soldiers had arrived at 3 am with tickets and therefore were first on the standby lists. When I inquired if Continental airlines and the Airport knew about this ahead of time, I was told that they knew about this day months in advance, however there was nothing posted on Continental airlines website about this nor on the St. Louis Lambert field airport’s website, but this happens every year at this time.
After spending 8-10 hours sitting at the airport basically glued to the gate area. I called my son-in-law to come pick me up and I proceeded to the ticket counter to see what the agents could to do about getting me on the next available flight in the morning. The ticket agent was able to get me on a Delta Airlines flight leaving at 7:55 am on Saturday. Dec. 20th routing through Cincinnati and then to Hartford.
I was given what I thought was a ticket and was told to come in early to get a boarding pass at the ticket counter. When I arrived at the airport at 4:30am, I waited in line with the rest of the passengers whose flights had been canceled, to get my boarding pass. The Delta airline representatives kept calling for passengers going to Atlanta on the 7:55am flight to come to the front of the line and be ticketed and handed boarding passes. At 7am I began to become worried and attempted to speak with a Delta airline representative, but was told to stay in line. At 7:35am I went up to the ticket counter to inquire about my flight, I was informed that what I had that I thought was a ticket was in fact just an Itinerary and then she angrily asked where I had been because they had been calling for “the 7:55am flights”.
I then informed her that no one had called for my flight because I was going to Cincinnati, not Atlanta. She then was very dismissive and said I would have to be rebooked because the plane was locked down and leaving the jet way. As an after thought she said I had to return to the Continental ticket counter to be rebooked.
In mounting frustration, I grabbed my luggage and proceeded to the Continental ticket counter and basically was not a nice person. The ticket agent, Joe Hemp, calmed me down and went to work on getting me another flight. Unfortunately, it was not going to be this day but now I was leaving on an American Airlines non-stop flight at 7:55am on Sunday Dec 21st. I was given an Itinerary and was told to make sure I had my ticket and my boarding pass before I left the airport so that I could just go to the gate in the morning. I proceeded to the American Airlines ticket counter and stood in line for an additional 3 hours, but I got my ticket and boarding pass!!! I again called my son-in-law for a ride back to his home with my daughter and grandson. I was rapidly becoming the “Grandma who wouldn’t leave”.
On Sunday, Dec 21st I arrived at the airport with a positive attitude and my hopes were high. I stood in line for the security gates and as I arrived at the metal detector, I was told that I was the lucky person chosen for a full baggage and body search. According to the security person, I was flagged because I had changed my flights too many times in the course of the past 3 days. As if it couldn’t get any better, the analyzer alerted the security personnel that my shoes and my wrist brace showed traces of glycerin. It turned out to be my hand and foot lotion. Eventually, I was allowed to find my departure gate and as I got to the podium, the gate attendants were asking for 5 volunteers to take a later flight as the aircraft was over the weight limit.
Needless to say, I was not one of the volunteers. We finally boarded the small jet aircraft, settled in and non-stop flight was winging its way to the northeast. There was a moderate amount of turbulence, but all in all not a bad flight. We were 30 miles outside of Bradley airport when the Captain announced that we would have to circle for a bit to see if the visibility would increase as he needed at least ½ mile of visibility to land the jet. We circled for an hour. Then we got the bad news that we were being diverted to Allentown, PA for refueling and to wait for the weather to clear. Apparently, American Airlines does not have a terminal in Allentown and we were “guests” for about 2 ½ hours. When we finally made to Bradley airport, the only gate available was in use by a departing aircraft that was being refueled. Another 45 min delay. So our 3 hour, 20 min flight lasted a little over 9 hours.

We went to Phoenix, AZ on our honeymoon. It was at The Pointe Resort and
Villas in June 1981. We walked into our villa and was shocked. It looked
as if the walls were moving. They were! The walls were covered in crickets. There were crickets everywhere; crawling. Just crawling. This was considered
a 4 star resort. We asked to see the management and get a different villa.
Again, there were crickets in the next villa. Not as many. We decided to stay in that villa. This villa had two floors. The crickets were mainly on the bottom floor.
So we stayed upstairs. Upstairs there were silverfish. We couldn't get away from BUGS. During the stay we were told this was their cricket season. If we only knew beforehand. What a honeymoon to remember!

Well to start I get really nervous flying...so taking off really gets me panicking. So I was going to St. Louis from Florida because my brother was having brain surgery for his parkinson.and I couldn't get on the plane because of technicalities. They said it would be an hour to board. We could wait or board another plane. I waited a little while and then they said the plane would not be fixed that day. So knowing I get scared flying this didn't help me any getting on another plane. So I did and had a layover in Atlanta and missed my connecting flight to St. louis so I had to stay in Atlanta. I was so worried i would not make it to St; Louis for his surgery. Delta did put me up in a hotel but they said my luggage was still in Florida. I waited for over an hour to see if it just happened to get to Atlanta, they told me no. So I went to the hotel with no clothes, toiletries or food. I had to walk to a little convenient store and it was a bad area that I was walking in. I brought toothbrush, toothpaste, and other little things for tomorrow. I also brought a t-shirt which I still have...lol. I found a mcdonalds and grabbed something to eat. So I am walking in this bad area which I had no idea where I was. I got back to the hotel and after finally falling asleep at 5 am I get a call that they have my luggage, it was there all night. The person in the luggage area just didn't look hard enough. I got to the airport earlier than the flight to get my luggage and they already put it on the cart for the flight. So I just waited and finally boarded to my destination. I feel I should win so I can take my brother who made it thru the surgery and is doing well on a trip.

One year ago, my girlfriend and I experienced a nightmare of a vacation. We headed out from our hometown in Kentucky, driving to Daytona Beach, Florida. We’re a little over an hour from the hotel, when a spark plug comes loose from the car’s engine, rendering it un-drivable. Without a means of transportation, we were forced to have the car towed the remaining 80 miles to our hotel. The next day we take the car to a mechanic, and spend about 7 hours there. We leave thinking the car was fixed, but we were wrong. Two days later, ANOTHER spark plug shoots out of the engine. Come to find out, the last person to service the car had installed the wrong type of spark plug. Spark plugs are very inexpensive, so whoever worked on it in the past could have saved us a lot of money had they paid attention to what they were doing. When it was all said and done, between towing and repairs, we spent around $800. When you go to the “Sunshine State”, you expect warm weather right? Well, our warmest day in Florida was 50 degrees, and it rained that day. The nights saw temperatures in the 20's. On our way home our GPS took us a different route, which led us to an interstate that had been shut down due to rock slides. A drive that should have taken 12 hours ended up taking 16 hours. We could use a REAL vacation PLEASE!

My husband and I were taking a trip to Spain with a tour. One month before our travel date, the tour cancelled due to the fact that they didn't have enough people signed up for that tour. We lost our trip, no insurance. So we used our airfare to go to Vegas. It was 100* when we got there and American Airlines lost our luggage. NO clean fresh clothes, nothing. If you have ever been to Vegas you will know that you can't just go to a store & buy underclothes. To make matters worse, I have a prosthetic leg that needs to be charged nightly or the knee will lock up. My charger was in my missing luggage. The next morning after getting out of the shower we were expecting to have our luggage, it didn't show up. That afternoon it finally came & I was able to charge my leg. After 1 day my husband's filling fell out of his tooth, After 2 days in Vegas we headed back to the airport to go home. We got lost on the way there and American Airlines told us that we were late & were put on stand by. There was a storm in NY so flights were limited. Two cancellations later I was fed up & raised my voice a little to get attention. Then the ticket agent told me that we were on the wrong list to start with. Again, my leg charger was in my luggage. My luggage was on it's way to NY without me. We couldn't wait to get home from this stressful vacation.

My husband and I got to experience frustrating travels on our way to our honeymoon destination. After a long day of delayed flights, broken planes and LOTS of waiting, we finally made it to Seattle, Washington. After running through the airport to make it onto our next flight we arrived at the check in counter for our flight to Hawaii. When we finally made it to the counter, the "customer service representative" was the icing on the frustrating cake! She told us that she was not sure that she could get us on the flight and when I mentioned to her that we had already lost an entire day of our honeymoon in Hawaii thanks to their airline, she said, "Well, you are newleyweds, you have the REST OF YOUR LIFE TOGETHER!!!" It took every ounce of restraint I had not to respond that while, "Yes we do have the rest of our lives together, the rest of our life is in Kansas while our honeymoon was SUPPOSED to be in Hawaii!!!" Then thanks to all the difficulties we had experienced that day I just began sobbing!!!!

My not so wonderful, long anticipated vacation began by getting to the airport with my wife, teenage daughter, 5 month old daughter, teenagers freind, and my mom & dad. We were all ready to fly to Orlando for a two week vacation when after waiting at the terminal for 8 hours our plane was grounded for mechanical problems and wasn't leaving until the next day. After insisting on the first flight out i finally got tickets to learn that the plane was double booked ,so be there early said the not so nice airline employees, because it was first come first served. Then more arguing for hotel vouchers that they did not want to give us finally landed us in a hotel room with a broken heater that ran all night making the hotel room an easybake oven! Opened the window in the room for some cool air to find we were right next to an interstate with semi-trucks roaring by all night, couldn't sleep so waited in lobby for the transport driver to come in, then woke up everyone that could sleep. After arriving at the airport finally got boarded and made our way to sunny Florida 22 hours later. Made a complaint to the airlines for the complete inconvenience and they gave me some airline vouchers. I had a trip come up and cashed in the vouchers to only have another fantastic experience, the return trip. Myself and my brother went to Louisville, arrived at the airport for our return and waited 3 1/2 hours past departure time to finally leave and then miss connecting flights then have to spend the night at another airport and catch a flight to an airport 1 1/2 hours drive away from home finally getting home the next day. To say the least everything including the compensation was a complete mess and unenjoyable. Some COMPENSATION huh! I was certainly glad to end that nightmare, now we all look back and laugh about it. I would like this grand prize so i could see my parents ,as i have moved 1500 miles from them and don't get to see them anymore. Thank you, and hope nobody has to have the opportunity to enjoy a vacation like that.

We finally got to take our dream trip last year, a combination land and cruise to Alaska. The land portion was fabulous and then there was the cruise with Holland America. The steward opened the door to the cabin for us and we were greeted with the overwhelming smell of sewage. His solution: get a fan and ask us to walk around the ship for an hour. We returned to the same smell and were informed there wasn't another cabin available so this was our big cruise, ocean air and sewage. I wrote two letters to Holland America and never received a reply. No more trips with them. Winning a trip would help to heal our wounds over the expenses we had of a cruise that was impossible to completely enjoy.

Attempting to fly from Little Rock AK to Appleton WI I was routed to Atlanta GA. There they told me that the flight to Appleton was canceled and here is a T shirt to make up for the inconvenience. After spending a night in the airport I was able to get a flight to Minneapolis MN with the thought of catching a connection to Appleton. Got to MN and the flight to Appleton was canceled and I got to spend a day and night in the MN airport. Not even a T shirt that time. Finally the next morning a flight to Appleton. When I got there, we almost diverted to Green Bay, but the pilot was brave and landed. I guess one should not try to get to Appleton from anywhere. Not worth it anyway.

Due to a language barrier issue at the Berlin airport, and after getting my passport thrown at my face by an airline worker, I missed my flight and was forced to purchase another ticket home to NYC which made my "budget" trip to Germany twice as expensive.

Serveral years ago in February, my wife had planned a trip to Birmingham, AL for me to reunite with my best friend which I had not seen in 10 years and for her to meet him for the first time. We were to fly non-stop from Dallas to Birmingham.
Our ride to Dallas Love Field dropped us off and we checked in. A bad storm, with tornadoes, moved into the area delaying flight after flight. The terminal was wall to wall people after several hours. As we could not reclaim our baggage or get a ride back home, we spent 13 hours in the airport watching college basketball playoffs. At 1:00 AM, we were put on a rerouted flight to Tulsa, OK. After we arrived, with no baggage, we had 4 hours until our newly scheduled flight to St. Louis, MO. We left St. Louis and finally arrived in Birmingham later than our original flight on the next day.
A short 1.5 hour flight ended up being almost 30 hours. In addition, we could not get our bags from Southwest Airlines for another 2 days!

We had went to the renaissance faire in Holly MI. We had booked the room at a travel lodge for 4 nights. We had stayed there 2 nights and both days the room had not been cleaned. We should have noticed that something was wrong when we got there. the travel part of the sign was blacked out. We went and talked to the front desk after 2 days and they gave us the excuse that the help had quit. We said that that was not our problem . We tried to talk to the manager but thet refused to let us do it. We told them that we were leavind and they told us that they were going going to charge us for the other 2 nights. We payed cash for the first 2 nights. They told us that we could not leave. After we left they still charged the card for 4 nights. I got a refund after calling and writing a letter to Visa. I called the corprate office of travel lodge and they said that they had withdrawn all corprate affiliation with that hotel because of the way doing businees and treating there customers.

The worst vacation ever! A single mom, I decided to fly from Chicago to San Francisco to visit my sister with my two year old son. The nightmare began the moment we landed. The airline LOST my carseat, which had been checked baggage. They apologized and offered to let me use one of their sticky, ten year old stained "loaner" carseats, which I politely declined. I was irate, to say the least, and STUCK in this airport with no way of leaving, so my sister had to leave and go buy one for me. Three hours later, I finally left the airport. The next day, my son spiked a high fever, resulting in an all day (8-hour) visit to the emergency room, all for the diagnosis of an ear infection, and a script for antibiotics. Day three was the first day I actually got to relax and enjoy a margarita that evening. My sister ran out of ice, so she make a quick trip in her car to the gas station to get more. Five minutes later, I get a phone call from her telling me that she's just been in a wreck and totalled her car. She was not injured, but needless to say, we did not have a car to go anywhere for the remainder of my two-week stay. Frustrating? I'd say so!!!

On my last trip to Montreal:
-Our Scion got broken into(in front of our hotel)
-We found nail clippings in the window sill of our hotel room.
-Copious amount of human HAIR clippings right under the window of our room. I don't even want to know. Imagine looking out of the window into a seedy alley and seeing human hair. What the hell was going on in that hotel?
-On our first night exploring the city the desk clerk said "I hope you brought your knives and guns".
-After a night of clubbing the desk clerk asked if we could run out to the convenience store and buy him cigarettes. At 5:00 AM. In this hotel, the desk clerk has YOU running his errands.
-Cockroach running across the toiletries I placed on the bathroom sink.
And I'm not even mentioning drunk people throwing stuff off the roof across the street .
NONE of this was in the travel brochure.

I was in Jamaica when American Airlines decided to cancel our flight back to NY the morning of our departure. They left a voicemail on my phone but did not call anyone else in the party i was with. When i called American Airlines they couldn't tell me why the flight was canceled but they told me to go to the airport anyway and get on another flight. I left our 4 star hotel and I arrived at the airport after an hour's drive through the towns of Jamaica (where we got stopped by men with guns) where i was met with a two hour wait to stand online and speak to someone. After waiting two hours, i was told that i couldn't get a flight out until Tuesday (it was Saturday). They then told me i could fly to Texas but then I would have to provide further transportation to NY. One of the people i was with called her sister and her sister stated that there were seats available on another airline. We told the customer service man that we would like to go on that flight and we would pay for the upgrade, if need be. He told us that American Airlines didn't affiliate with that airline and that we were out of luck. After arguing with them, they finally got us on a flight the next day. They put us up in what was suppose to be a 4 star hotel near the airport (it was more like a 2 star hotel) and then we woke up the next day at 5am to start our day of travel. After leaving Jamaica at 7, I was flown to Miami, where i had to wait 5 hours for my flight to Orlando. I then flew from Miami to Orlando and then had to wait 8 hours for my flight to NY. I finally arrived in NY at 1:30am Sunday night and promptly woke up at 6:30am to go to work. What a horrible spring break. I am a teacher and spent a good amount of money for my spring break (we all know how much teachers get paid). That is why i should win this trip.
