Business trip to Boston and then Nantucket.
Choice in getting to Nantucket - ferry or Trump shuttle. Since I had fractured my back and undergone surgery, I was still in a plastic brace. Folks said the ferry would be too bumpy, so we opted for the Trump shuttle.
Problem: No one told the Trump shuttle, which was booked special for this trip, it was too big for the Nantucket runway. Fortunately, we boarded first and sat in the very front, so when the landing started I could use my feet to push against the wall and brace myself. By the time we actually stopped, I was in excruciating pain.
Then, to add insult to injury, we had to deplane by stairway provided by the Nantucket airport. I had taken to wearing roomy shift dresses to accommodate the brace. I was the last to deplane, and climbing backward down the Nantucket stairway one person at a time, my dress caught a blast of breeze and was suddenly "shifted" (sorry for the pun) up above my waist. Oh, the horror of my underwear suddenly being exposed to the entire world! After people gawked, the president realized my dilemma and ran up the stairs to help keep what was left of my dignity.
Oh, and sightseeing excursions were a bit difficult since the limousine-van meant either crawling to a seat in back on my knees or sitting in the front. Unfortunately, more than once we had to wait quite a long time for the next trip because one very rude man would jostle me out of the way and take the front seat.
Now that my back is fully healed, if given the opportunity, I'd go to the Grand Canyon and ride the mules down, spend 2 nights in the canyon and ride up again. This is #1 on my bucket list, especially since completing my last cancer treatment in March - I am a 4 time survivor!!

The short version; honeymoon cruise aboard the canaveral, ship about 1\4 the size of a regular cruise ship. For real people. The air didn't work, the club was closed, areas had water damage, it smelled of burnt smoke, shower so small, could not close the curtain, held the hand held shower head outside the shower and spayed into the stall (no bending). Rooms so hot, people actually slept on deck attempting to catch a breeze. The pool was salt water and smelled like sulfer water. Elevators inoperable in certain areas. Ship should not have sailed. Their response to this, offered us a discount off price of a future cruise. I think not!
We deserve to win because, thirteen years later, winning this will give us an opportunity to take a real vacation.

WE HAD PLANNED OUR FAMILY VACATION TO DISNEY WORLD THIS PAST SUMMER. HAD ENOUGH MONEY TO ENJOY OURSELVES, NO WORRIES. EVERYTHING HAD BEEN PLANNED FOR IN ADVANCE SINCE MARCH AND GOT A REALLY GREAT DEAL (FLIGHT AND HOTEL). THE DAY OF THE FLIGHT OUT OF MCALLEN WE GOT THERE A LITTLE LATE AND THANKS TO ALLEGIANT WE WERE STARRING AT THE PILOTS FROM THE WINDOW WAVING OUR ARMS LIKE MAD PEOPLE TO GET THEIR ATTENTION. TO NO AVAIL OF COURSE. WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD GIRL CRYING AND ASKING " DADDY WHY IS THE PLANE LEAVING WITH US NOT IN IT", JUST BROKE MY HEART. WE HAD TO RENT A VEHICLE AND DRIVE STRAIGHT TO HOUSTON TO MAKE THE NEXT AVAILABLE FIGHT. THIS WAS AT AN ADDITIONAL COST OF 1800.00 ONE WAY. TALK ABOUT PUTTING A DENT IN OUT POCKET/PLANS. WE MADE THE MOST OF IT, EATING FROM MCDONALDS THE WHOLE WEEK. LESSON LEARNED

Our story begins in September 2004 as my partner and I prepared to go to Russia to finalize the adoption of our two beautiful daughters. Having made the trip on a Russian airline 3 months earlier I begged her to fly american at least part of the trip. We booked a flight on Delta with a layover in Paris. The flight to NY was fine in fact that was probably what would turn out to be the best part of our 24 hr travel experience. Once we boarded the plane in NY I was seated beside a very unusual person to say the least. Shortly after take off they served dinner and within a few minutes my nightmare began. The lady beside me was bulemic. She slowly went through her entire meal by eating one item at a time and purging this back in the countainer. One by one I had to sit beside this woman. It was absolutely the nastiest thing I have ever experienced. For hours she did this as myself and everyone around her tried to keep our distance. I reported her to flight attendant who told me there was no where for them to move me. MOVE ME??? what about landing the plane and REmoving her. Somewhere over Greenland they finally turned down the lights and she finished her meal. (hours after the rest of us). As I tried to sleep practically sharing the same seat as my partner I couldnt believe it. The bulemic had put on a eye cover and was snoring away. and it wasnt much longer before the lights came on and Breakfast was served!!! I was never so happy to get off of a plane in my life. and after arriving in Russia several hours later to find that all of clothing and tolietries had stayed in Paris and would not arrive to us for two days. I was stuck in the same clothing that I had to sit beside that woman throwing up on. Needless to say I burned those clothes when I arrived back in the states. Its been 6 years since my partner and I have flown anyway or spent any time alone since that night thats why I think I deserve a vacation.

I'LL never forget a Memorial Day weekend trip to the Adam's Mark Resort in Clearwater Beach with my husband, and our 8 and 5 year old kids. Friday traffic over the bridge to resort was bumper to bumper, as we inched closer within a mile of resort our car broke down. No hotel shuttle, had to call a taxi! Car had to be towed to auto mechanic for $$$. Then son came down with a bad ear infection & fever, thankfully Pediatrician called in prescription to pharmacy-alas no car-another taxi to a 24 hour Walgreens. Finally bed never felt so good that is until a fire alarm was pulled at 1:00am. On the ten floor, had to walk down all the stairs, everyone out to the parking lot in Pjs. Fire trucks etc..All clear back up to bed again, trying to calm kids, fell asleep for an hour then, fire alarm sounds again at 3:30am, once again all out to parking lot, Many of the hotel guests were pretty upset, one guy almost got in fistacuffs with the manager; I think we got free breakfast big whoop!...It was not a very relaxing trip-car broke down, sick kid, no sleep or peace. It was a "Memorial Day" weekend alright!!!

US airlines lost my luggage for a 5 week fishing adventure in Chile. I got there with just the clothes I was wearing on the plane. They gave me $200 for new clothes, which bought me a pair of Levis and 3 shirts, 3 pairs of underwear and socks. Brother in law lent us (my wife & I) car for a trip down to Patagonia for some well needed fishing, 1/3 of the way there, the airlines called saying my luggage (and fishing gear) had arrived, We turned around, drove back to the airport only to find some guys luggage from Africa (and no fishing gear). We set out again, this time with brother in law for Patagonia and car breaks down 1/3 of way there. Take bus back to Santiago.
Rent car for trip to Patagonia, drunk driver rear ends us at first stop light we arrive at, totaling car. Fine print says we must pay $2000 for car. Law says spend rest of trip in Santiago since I didn't have driving license for Chile. thought I was going to go to jail. Plane ride back was very bumpy with more than normal turbulance. Trip was a major disapointment.

The worst trip ever happened to my husband and I. We were flying a certain airline from Las Vegas to Buffalo NY (not southwest). We had a layover in Bloomington MN, and when we went to change planes I read on the screen that our flight had been canceled. I was pregnant at the time, and my first sonogram was scheduled less then 24 hours from then. It was important because I was having serious complications with my pregnancy, and I needed to make sure that everything was going to be okay. When I went to the counter to talk to the customer service agent she told me there was nothing they could do and the first flight out in the morning was completely booked. They didn't know when they could get us out of there. They ended up putting us up at some fleabag motel that had black mold on the wall, and rust on the ceiling. We left the death motel really early in the morning, and went back to the airport to ride standby. We didn't leave the state of MN until 35 hours later then we were originally supposed to. I ended up missing my appointment, and more personal, upsetting things followed. All in all, I would say that it was by far the worst travel experience I've ever had! Not to mention I didn't receive one apology from anyone!

This was my first cruse.
After a 3 hour drive we arrived at port around 12 Noon, parked my car and got in line. We stood in line in the sun for 2 hours before entering the building. After entering the building we had to stand in line again for 1 hour just to check in and get our boarding number, and stand around again tell they called our boarding number. We finally boarded the ship at 4:15 pm.
Now we were tired and we haven’t had a thing to drink or eat since 9am that morning. We just wanted to get in my cabin to freshen up and find something eat, but the room key didn’t work. I was told to go to the information desk to get a new key. After standing in line again for 1-½ hours at the information desk, I was told that they were closing for the lifeboat drill and had to leave. I begged them to get a new key to the cabin. When I tried the new key it didn’t work either. One of the pursers opened the cabin so we can put my bags in and get the life preserver. Now with life preserver in hand we ran to the lifeboat drill. After the drill we went back to the cabin and had to have the purser open the cabin, it is now after 6:45pm and I have very little time to rest and to get ready for dinner at 8:00pm.

I was so excited to be going on a week's vacation to Las Vegas after working 12 hour days in a high stress job for more than a year. I boarded my plane in Savannah, GA and had a pleasant flight to Atlanta but when we were starting to board the plane to Las Vegas I realized we had to go outside to meet our very tiny plane in the July heat and were seated in the very last row of seats next to the engine where we waited 30 or more minutes to take off. This was bad news for a claustrophobic person.
After our arrival in Las Vegas my fiance and I decided to go bet on the horse races at a casino across town from our hotel. We hopped in a cab, one of many, and realize that we need to stop at a pharmacy as my fiance has something on his contact. After picking up some eye drops, we are off in a new cab when we suddenly see a car getting ready to pull out of a drive on the opposite side of the 8 lane freeway and in trying to beat the cars in other lanes T-boned our cab as we are traveling 20 or more mph above the speed limit. The cab driver pulls over and thankfully, we are all ok. He proceeds to call for another cab to pick us up and then asks for the cab fare to be paid! We finally make it to the casino only to realize that due to the time change, we had missed the horse race anyway and it was time for another cab ride back to our hotel!!!

My worst traveling time was in 2004 when my husband and I were relocating from Detroit to Phoenix. We had traveled between the two cities almost twice a month for almost one year with no problems, usually traveling on Southwest. On this particular trip we were going to Phoenix as I had a final job interview and HAD to be in Phoenix the next day. As we were at the boarding gate we were stopped and told we could not board. After waiting about 10 minutes the gate attendant finally screamed at my husband "you can't board because of your size". (300 lbs). We were told that if he could not put the seat belt on he would have to purchase a second seat. They would not let us on the original flight but did allow us on the next flight out as he was able to seat in the one seat with the belt fasten. However on our return flight they stopped us again and this time stated "we are aware of what happen on your flight coming but we need to be sure he can sit in the seat with the seat belt fasten. We were forced to board the plane with 3 executives from Southwest and 3 security officers. I finally turned to them and asked "did your plane shrink in 3 days cause he is the same size as he was coming. All six SW employees stood over us as he sat down and fasten the belt - looked at each other and walked off the plane. We have never been so frustrated and angry - have not been on SW since.

I speak for all of us when I say....it seems like losing if you receice airlines tickets. It is no wonder why noone flies anymore. It is pure torture. We can ALL agree on that.

Our Son who was having financial problems flew to Seattle, he took over 50 sleeeping pills. He was found by a cleaning person in the AM, Taken to a hospital
revived. Then Instituted for 3 days. We arranged for a Direct flight home $900.00.Flight was cancelled after waiting 3 hours, got a flight to San Francisco.
Connecting flight was cancelled..No flights out until next day. Called A.A. from
restaurant, explained the urgency of getting him home, after 20 min conversation hooked me up with a supervisor, who said to bad they couldn't help me or talk to me because I wasn't the passenger. After several phone calls and 12 hours of
worry and fretting got a flight for him to l.A and then a connection to St. Louis.
American sent a $200.00 voucher for future travel. I tore it up into little pieces.

In 2006 I had tickets to the opening ceremonies in Torino Italy for the Olympics, as well as several pricey tickets to ski and ice hockey events. Boarded the plane with my Sig other in Miami. On Swiss Air. Got to N.Y and hit another over night flight to Paris. Well into the flight, after movie, dinner etc.. I note that the little plane on the view screen is not where it is suppose to be. Pilot comes ona nd says we lost an engine, have to land in Montreal. Hour later he says, cant make it to montreal, we are landing inHalifax, where the titanic ppl are buried. 2 a.m. we land barely in Halifax, we got school buses to take us to some horrid run down hotel. we waited for three days before swiss air could get another jet in. no clothes, no nothing. we finally got out but missed the events, the opening ceremonies etc. however they did give us a box of chocolates when boarding the new jet :(

It doesn't seem possible to pick my worst flight experience. Each and every flight has been a flight from hell. Besides being robbed by the airlines off the chart prices and fees adn being cramped like sardines in those godawful seats you have to plan ahead on being late at least two hours each time. I could never figure out how they stayed in business. I quit flying shortly after 9/11 and have never regretted it. I present to you ALL the flights that I ever took as my worst flight ever because each one was a s bad as all the rest. It is no wonder that noone flys anymore.

I got to my destination just fine in May of 2007. It was what happened at the hotel in Memphis that put the kill switch on my fun. Seems the hotel I was staying in had a plumbing problem. When I used the bathroom and flushed before standing up, hot steam gushed up and burned my 'privates'. Almost jumping up and in to the wall, I tried to reach back and grab the sink to avoid a face plant and I wrenched my shoulder. For the next 6 weeks my shoulder got worse while my privates healed, but it took over a year to finally get needed shoulder surgery (July 2008). Yes, I had to get my shoulder rebuilt and go through therapy well in to 2009. All because of one trip that was supposed to be full of fun and music. I spent the better part of 2 years just recovering from that trip and don't ya know the surgery took so long to get, I could not even go after the hotel for the damages. Everyone said my shoulder was fine, even the tests. The doctors at Duke could not figure out how I even passed the test once they got inside my shoulder. Tennessee has a 1 year statute and it took 1 year and 2 months to prove. If I can't sue over a boiling hot toilet, don't you think a holiday would help go a long way in making up for the loss of 2 years in pain from one trip? I got the documents to back this one up. And did I mention I am allergic to pain pills and went through all of that? Trust me, I deserve a guilt free holiday!

Returning from a trip to Disneyland, we had the GREAT pleasure of being grounded in Phoenix. After waiting for several hours in line at the customer service counter, we were informed there were no flights available until the next afternoon! Naturally, our luggage somehow made it to our final destination before us. The hotel we were sent to did not have a room with two double beds, so the two rooms we had were on different floors. I slept in one room with our four-year old, while my husband slept with our 7 year-old in the other room. The next time we went to Disneyland, we rented a car!

Traveling from Houston to Calif. Plane was 3 hrs late leaving Houston...missed my connecting flight in L.A. Was told to go to another airline and I would be put on another flight. Sitting in the waiting area...the airline people failed to call the flight...so missed this flight too. Was told by the airline people that they would put us on a bus...but we had to wait another 3 hrs for it to arrive. Raised a fuss and they put me on the next flight out. All in all it took me 14 hrs to fly from Houston to Oxnard, Calif...normally it takes about 4 1/2 hrs.

OK I am single and disabled...so to get any vacation is a miracle. I love Myrtle Beach. It is so peaceful and good for the soul, in off season! I finally get to go boy-oh-boy. So~I spend months of anticipation, in my 1 brm apt. with my two pets. All I can think about~ is I get a vacation of my dreams with my sister. I look at Myrtle Beach on the internet for months, dreaming of my upcoming vacation. I was so thrilled to get to go. To top it off it was to be a SISTERS trip. My sister and I are not close. I dreamed of this bringing us together. Our relationship "forever" changed. We would be closer and forever!! Well~1st she changed the trip to a Mom & Daughter trip, without telling me. I was a little let down. Not that mother was coming~ no. Just that it would not be THE SISTERS trip, we have never had. So OK we are going. Hey it will be great. WooHoo!! It will be the best trip ever! First they stuck me in the rear. OK I can handle that. The sit up front and chat it up all the way. I sit in the rear and read a book. Oh so fun togetherness. We stop from everywhere to H#ll and back, before we get there. We finally get to the hotel. Long story short...they gang up on me...pick on me...yell at me...gripe at me...oh you get the deal. Misery & tears :( I was beginning to figure out why~ mom had to came on the SISTERS TRIP :( Mother stayed in the hotel room, the entire 4 days and did not walk out "once", until the day we left. In the hotel door and then out the hotel door. I am not kidding. My sister left the room twice. Once to get take out. Another time for 30 mins to take a short walk in the hotel and complain the whole time. Well~I felt like I was on vacation alone. I cried on the beach alone at night. I got on a boogie board alone and floated around. I picked up some shells alone. I might as well have been alone. Well~I was very alone. The trip back same deal. I sit in the rear......they are in the front and chatting it up having fun. I am in the rear sad and feeling left out. It was miserable, lonely and heart breaking. And then they told me the "whole trip" was just for me???!!! That I was selfish and self centered. Because my feelings got very hurt. It was the most miserable trip anyone could ever take. OK~back to my life all alone with my pets. I can still look at places online and dream :)

My most frustrating travel experience happened in tha last 30 minutes & it was with Capitol One. We are traveling to Italy for 14 days next week & called to ask for our credit limit to be extended from $2000.00 to $3000.00 the person we spoke to said he had the authority but without any financial info he was only able to increase it $500. We don't want to incur any additional fees for accidentally going over the limit & thought that $3000.00 would be plenty. Capitol One does not have any of our financial info, it was not required. We paid cash for our $400,000.00 home & have over $500,000.00 in our retirement accounts but that was not enough, very frustrating.

This one is a no-brainer for me. Several years ago I was flying from LA to London to meet my fiance who was already in England on a business trip, for a few days of touristing together. The originating flight from LAX had about a 75 minute layover in Atlanta where we would have to change planes for the Int'l leg. Shouldn't be a problem right? So...the plane arriving into LAX for our trip was late, they have to scramble to clean it up and refuel/restock and get us on board. The flight is full, they are bumping passengers. We are all on board, running about 30 minutes late, and the Captain decides to hold the flight for a few late arriving passengers from another connecting flight. We're now an hour behind schedule, and Atlanta is down a runway for some unknown reason....the pilot knows this. Several of us are already concerned about our connections and we haven't even left LAX.
It's clear we're running behind while in flight,we have not made up enough time in flight. The captain notifies everyone in the cabin that there are many passengers with connections, please let them deplane first (you already know that's not going to happen!) It's a late flight, we're arriving after 10 pm in Atlanta....so the captain tries to expedite our arrival by radioing ahead to change gates. If you know Atlanta, you know that arriving at the end of a terminal is a substantial hike just to reach the escalators to the trains, thoughtful of him to try and save a few minutes--even though it's his fault we're cutting it this close. We arrive at our gate, but there is no staff there to put the jetway out. We wait, and wait, 10 minutes lost. It's now critical, several of us have less than 10 minutes to make our connections....mine is at terminal E, we landed at terminal A. RUN!
I (and several other people) get off the plane and bolt for the trains...finally get to terminal E, panting and sweating. Great, the plane to London is still there! yay!!!! I can see it in the window, we wave to the pilots, yay!!!. The staff at the gate says we cant board. It's an international flight and the jetway has been withdrawn. Even though the plane is clearly still docked, we cannot get on it. So sorry, please see customer service to be scheduled on the next available flight. Im pissed. The pilot made us late by holding the plane, but they wont make the same accomodation for us on the other end. My fiance is expecting me, he's en route between two cities, I have no way of contacting him. We were going to find a hotel after he picked me up. We didn't have GSM phones (you bet we do now!) so calling him on his cell isn't an option either.
I go to customer service, wait in line...the agent I get is clearly in a bad mood, no one she has dealt with has been happy, I can see this on her face as I walk up, and their faces as they walk away. I hear their disgruntled exclamations, Im not encouraged. She says, next flight is in 20 hours....TWENTY HOURS. Here's a $7 voucher for food, and we'll put you up at hotel near the airport, if you hurry you can still catch their shuttle. It's not a total disaster yet, my family is in Atlanta, I'll stay with them. Mom will love the visit, and will happily bring me to the airport, but it's late, dark, and Im not going to ask her to drive 20 miles to pick me up at that time of night, she's 78. I ask, will you please pay for a cab, one-way, so that i can stay with my family during the 20 hour layover, It will be cheaper than the hotel??? Their answer....NO. No apology, no nothing, here's our offer, take it or make your own accomodations. It's late, now after 11, none of the food vendors at the airport are open, and I'm once again racing to catch a connection. I go to the hotel, tired frustrated and hungry....my room has a roach on the wall and i'm beyond caring.
Meanwhile, back in London, my fiance patiently awaits my arrival at the Gatwick airport. He has no idea I'm not on the flight. We aren't married, they wont release passenger info to him. He eventually figures out, after two hours waiting at customs, that I'm clearly not on the flight. OK, so now what? How are we ever going to manage to reconnect? Our cell phones wont work in Europe, so I didn't even bother to bring mine--I have no idea if he has his or not. Thank goodness he (for some unknown reason) has my mothers number. Even though I'm not there, he gets the details from her and we play tag with mom in the middle to patch things up. The next day I take the hotel shuttle back to the airport to await my new flight, no upgrade, no apology, no accomodation. Delta, if you read this...I was a loyal customer for 30 years. I'm an Atlantan. I drink Coke, I shop Home Depot, and I fly Delta. I have since cancelled my AMEX Delta rewards card, I will stay home before I give Delta a dollar of my business again.
