Here is what seems to work best for me. Upon arrival, I usually try to stay up until midnight ( local time ) regardless of the direction of travel. I then take a sleep aid ( the first couple of nights ) and get up at a normal ( local ) time, no alcohol, follow a bland diet, drink plenty of water and take long showers ( your body tend to get dihydrated on a long flight ).
