Several years ago I had to cancel a trip to Minneapolis on Northwest because of a very bad cold. I had taken the company's travel insurance for $20 when I booked the ticket. My doctor filled out the claim form and I got a full refund minus the $20....a very good investment. Northwest has since merged with Delta so I don't know how their insurance works, but I booked a mileage ticket to Paris on Delta for November and I signed up for the insurance which would only refund the taxes if I have to cancel...but maybe it would cover the fee to put my mileage back into my account. (I do not plan to cancel!)
