Ryanair pushing ahead with $6 standing room only seats and paid bathrooms
Last year, Ryanair first mentioned their concept for several rows of standing only seats. The idea back then was to install special standing seats and offer them for a reduced fee. The new seating innovation has not been implemented yet, but Michael O'Leary wants everyone to know that he is still very serious about it, and hopes to pay for the new seats with proceeds from the paid bathrooms he also hopes to install soon.
If there is one thing I've learned about Ryanair, it is that even though most of their ideas sound like crackpot ways to generate some free PR, they take their silly ideas quite seriously.
Ryanair knows that there is virtually no limit to the inconveniences passengers will put up with in exchange for crazy low airfares. When your flight is just a few hours out of a one week vacation, the savings on airfare leave you with more money for food, booze and tacky souvenirs.
With the new seats, between 40 and 50 extra passengers can be loaded on the planes, pushing things to the absolute maximum the plane is approved to carry. Still, the big question is whether you'd be willing to pay an insanely low fare in exchange for a standing seat on a flight of several hours.

This is OLD news on AOL> Can't AOL find up to date news to have on?

This news is brand new. The concept of standing seats is old(er) and was mentioned last year (as you can read in the article), but using paid bathrooms to finance the seats is something the airline announced last week.

i want them to raise the airline prices and get the bus people off the planes and back on the bus where they belong. Obama should give his people free bus fare together with all the other free stuff

Some are saying that a 'standing seat' would compromise safety; of course, it would be harder to get into the 'crouch' position in the event of an emergency. But the big advantage here is, if the plane crashes, standing passengers could simply hit the ground running.....

Ryanair provides me with continual (free) amusement. It's like the guy everyone loves to hate. And no, I wouldn't take a standing seat b/c it was cheaper, which is saying a lot

Ryanairs safety record is excellent though. I used to moan about the 'extra' fees until someone said to me "which bit of 'no frills airline' do you not understand?"
Now I appreciate that you get what you pay for, Ryanair is not cheap, it is just a reduced level of service to what we are used to, that is why it cost less!!!!
Now I have found the perfect hand baggage (the Cabin Max) I can take 10kgs carry on baggage and nothing in the hold, my flights re both easy, cheap and allow me to travel more often. Great.
Bring on the extra charges if it makes the regular fare go down, I and many other like me dont need or want the extras (if we did we would fly SAS or BA!)
