Transgender American travelers no longer require surgery for passport change
In a landmark move of fair-mindedness, the folks at the U.S. State Department have announced a new passport policy that will make life easier for many transgender travelers.
Starting June 17th, applicants are no longer required to have sexual reassignment surgery in order to receive a gender change on their passport.
According to CNN, an attending physician's certification will be required to confirm "passport applicants have undergone treatment for gender transition. Limited-validity passports for applicants who are in the process of gender transition will also be available."
The State Department also noted that the policy change was made to coincide with Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Month. Now if only the federal government would resolve that marriage issue...

What the hell is up with that photo?? Like it is kind of insulting to have a picture of a man with long hair, or maybe it is the only passport photo that you could find...
Either way I am transgendered and take offense to the photo.

The picture is hilarious. I'm sure guy has no idea his picture is being used for an article like this. Did you guys just get a royalty free passport photo and think no one would notice?

I had no idea my picture was being used for this article. I'm actually not happy about it because the picture is being used in violation of the terms of it's license. I see that this page is copyrighted with all rights reserved. Use of CC BY-SA licensed content in copyrighted content is not allowed without explicit content from the content owner - me, in this case. Please either contact me for terms of use of or remove the improperly used content immediately.

Also, just because someone is wearing a lei doesn't necessarily mean that they represent the transgender community. A lei plus some kind of nose piercing? Maybe. Just a lei? No.
