I can't believe they compiled this list and made absolutely no mention of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake in NW Lower Michigan. For the very best beaches in America, one only has to walk the beach from Empire to Glen Arbor. If that doesn't leave you breathless, then nothing does!

Perhaps because it's on a lake not an ocean? I think you either go to a beach or a lake...if it isn't facing an ocean, it's not a beach.

If it's got beach sand, it's a beach. Some of the best beach sand in the country is on Lake Michigan beaches.
