Old Orchard Beach, Maine???? Have you ever tried to swim in it? It may be lovely, but you may as well be putting your feet into a bucket of ice.
I grew up in Rhode Island. Two RI beaches -Scarborough and Narragansett - are still the best in my esitimation. Except for the cold. I now live in Florida and have gotten used to ocean water above 80 degrees.

Maybe you came on a relatively cold year, or maybe I'm just too much of a Mainer to notice but I LOVE the Maine ocean. Even after traveling to beaches around the country including the Hawaiian Islands several times and Florida I sitll find the cool Maine water so much more refreshing than 80 degree water. I know many people would disagree with me, but water temperature preference is all subjective.
Not to mention that the times that I have been to Hampton Beach in New Hampshire my feet go numb upon touching the frigid water. Even being from Maine, that water was unbearably cold!!! Maine oceans may be colder than tropical oceans, but they are just the right balance in my opinion. If I'm sweating because I'm sitting under a blazing sun in 90 degree weather, why would I want to jump in 80 degree water? Give me OOB anyday :)
