Spirit Airlines to abolish reclining seats
Citing extra space and lower weight, the airline claims that this will help passengers save money by keeping prices low. But in reality, it's just another stunt to cram as many passengers as possible into the already crowded, fee-riddled aircraft. The Sun Sentinel has more details on the upcoming plan below.

There is only one question that the CEO of Spirit airlines really needs to answer in light of his decision to charge for carry-on bags and abolishing seats that recline, and that is: "How does it feel to be the village idiot?"

So, now an airline is eliminating reclining seats. Other airlines are charging for bags. If you don't want to fly in a cattle car, don't choose that airline. Like any other business, if you keep shafting your customers, you will lose your customers and, ultimately, your business. So, whenever possible, avoid booking on those airlines that treat you like dirt. If they are doing nothing to encourage your patronage, why patronize them?

Did I miss something at the gate; I didn't see any 800 ob gorillas forcing people onto Spirit planes. You fly them because their cheap. Stop your b----hing. You want reclining seats; flly another airline. You don't want to pay for a carry on bag; fly another airline.

If I don't like a movie. I leave. If I don't like an airline, I don't fly on it. Spirit just made this decision easy for me.

finally.I HATE reclining seats I never recline and I hate it when the person in front of me reclines.

Spirit airlines is BS. I have flown on their airlin e 20-30 times and of all of those flights maybe 6-7 were on time the others were delayed anywhere fron 30 mi nutes to 10-12 hours. They try and say we are the cheapest and they are in service, personel, baggage handling, reservations ( which are in India where you cannot understand Joe's words all he keeps asking is did i answer your questions) and when you say NO he asks the same question10 more time. This may be the dumbest airlines in the sky.

I have flown quite often. I have disabitilities. Arthities in my back and hips being some, so sitting straight up is very painful. So I recline some. I do NOT lay back, nor do I want someone laying in my lap. Even my car seats are reclined some. Not everyone can afford to fly first class, many of us have disabilities. I have flown in Military plans with screaming babies for 44 hours while they spit up over the seats into my son's bags. OVER the seat. I have flown for 4 hours, in ideal conditions. Either way, I want my seat to be able to recline some. I would never fly with an airline that charges me to even breath. At the rate Spirit is going, that is going to be next...Ladies and Gentlemen: The Oxygen is above your heads, for the cost of $X .

I have never flown on Spirit. Heard too many bad things about them. Southwest is the least greedy airline as far as baggage goes, but their schedules leave a lot to be desired....long layovers, etc. My most recent flight was on American, which has better schedules, but they don't even give you a little bag of peanuts or pretzels on a 3 hour flight. Because of increased security, you can no longer stash a little travel size bottle of booze in your pocket or purse, so if you want a cocktail you pay $7.00. Better have your credit card handy, because they don't accept cash.

What's next, in-flight pay toilets?
Kat Apr 23rd 2010 12:13AM
Why would anyone fly on this airline? If you add in all the fees, you don't save any money, and they show nothing but contempt for the passengers.
Frank Apr 23rd 2010 12:26AM
I don't get it? I'm 5'11" and I have never had an issue with the person in front of me because of their reclining. These seats only recline a few inches at most. Someone please explain how the person in front of you can bother you when their seat only reclines about 3" or so?
We are really a strange species, people, we all have our separate gripes, mine is with the person next to me, overflowing into my "paid for" space.

Two days ago I purchased a ticket for my son to come home for my other sons HS Graduation this June. After I picked the flights and paid for them they said I could pick his seats. When I attempted to pick the seats I was informed it would be an additional $32 to pick the seats. It would be free if We waited until he got to the airport and they assigned him a leftover seat. There goes the reasable prices.

Spirit is digging it's own grave one shovel full at a time by making one exceedingly stupid decision at a time.
allenschroeder3 Apr 23rd 2010 12:46AM
A little common-sense here, Spirit. If any of your flights are over 3 hours in length, keeping a seat upright is pretty damn unfair to riders. I'll go further: airline seats are too narrow for an average American adult, and "encouraging" passengers to remain in their seats with belts on for more than 3 hrs is equally unreasonable. Also, If the airlines need more money, for heavens sake RAISE THE FARE--don't add "fees"!
Brad Apr 23rd 2010 12:58AM
I'll never fly Spirit airlines. It would be worse than a greyhound bus in the sky.
recinellas Apr 23rd 2010 1:13AM
wow, I would never fly this crappy airline. If they cut corners on this stuff, what kind of safety things are they cutting corners on. Maybe next they'll charge for the air you breathe while onboard
Frank Apr 23rd 2010 1:13AM
I'm going from Seattle to NJ next month and I think I am going to go Am Trak. I think I have to transfer in Ill, but I'm looking forward to a pleasant 3 day trip while looking at the backyards zipping by.
Bill Apr 23rd 2010 1:27AM
I expect that any day now, Spirit will announce that it is abolishing the pilots and passengers will have to fly the planes themselves.
Tim Apr 23rd 2010 1:53AM
First Spirit wants to charge passengers $45 for carry-ons. Now they're doing away with reclining seats. Sounds to me like they want to make their flights more expensive and much less comfortable. What's next? You have to pay to use the lavatory? It's obvious that Spirit has no concern for the comfort of their passengers.
The idiots at the top of Spirit have NO spirit. Their customers pay more, get even less while they rake in the dough. Not my dough!!! I'll never fly Spirit or any airline like them.
