Detroit TSA agent moonlighting as armed fast food robber
A Detroit TSA agent has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in at least four robberies of local fast food restaurants. The men were caught on camera robbing a McDonalds where they used a brick to smash the windows and rob the staff. The camera footage shows the men using the same blue gloves as used by TSA staff at airport checkpoints.
The gang was made up of three men - but the TSA is most interested in Quantrez Sawyer as they are the ones that employ him to guard Detroit Metropolitan Airport. The arrest is just another embarrassment for the TSA who seem to have a pretty bad track record. In the past, TSA workers have been arrested on suspicion of luggage theft, theft of an HBO production camera and even possession of child porn.
The three are each being held on a $1 million bond, and if convicted, they may end up spending life sentences in jail.

The items get thrown away. Why would someone want to keep others junk?
cnris Apr 19th 2010 2:43AM
Katie, they dont throw the stuff away, they actually sell everything on ebay and other venues and the money goes to training employees and buying equipment.

What information do you have that would suggest that? Besides the one officer that was arrested for stealing a camera years ago and selling it on Ebay. What confiscated items would a government agency as a whole attempt to sell? I guess I just dont understand how you could come to that conclusion.

i was working at the jfk airport in ny over 5 yrs ago and i have seen tsa people steal things out of bags that go into a machine.when you have someone like that do you trust them with your life.no way.when you go around the usa and go thru airport screeners and they say no toothpaste=thats a lie because in tsa web site there is nothing about it and they steal things that you know you had..if someone robs stores etc no matter where they live and you know they will rob you. i say the goverment should take over and hire a new company that are say ex cops.....get rid of tsa and they are bad to the usa................................

You are wrong, it clearly states on the TSA website that no liquids, gels, pastes, creams or aerosols are allowed over 3.4 oz. There are signs all over the airport, plus announcements that go off. If people cannot follow these simple instructions than I do understand why one would be simple-minded enough to think TSA wants to take home your used toothpaste.

Your statement is either purposely untrue or just misinformed. TSA officers are just doing their jobs. They do not take things out of passengers’ bags and keep the items for themselves; they confiscate and dispose of the items as directed by their SOP. Yes there have been a few caught stealing or attempting to do so, but you will always have a few bad apples in every company. The majority of the officers’ act professionally and courteous when interacting with the public but on many occasions do not receive the same respect from those who they are sworn to protect. You have some police officers who are corrupt as well, but does that mean all police officers are criminals?

I have flown quite often since the whole 9/11 thing and crack down at the airports.
I have to say I have only had one time that I was upset about, but in the end it was my fault for not making sure a half bottle of water was tken out of my bag. I had spaced it and forgot. My bag (PURSE!) with my ID, money, CC. etc was taken and put back through the scanner way behind me, and I had no way to keep an eye on it. That was pretty unsettling, and the woman was not very nice about any of it. But it was a busy time and I sort of held things up for a half minute.
Other than that time (which I do admit was my own fault) I have always been treated well, TSA has always been polite and some are pretty funny too. I think it is all in how you treat them. They are there to do a job, and most of them do it very well. You will find bad apples in nearly every barrel.

The penalty for turds like this (others in special position of trust) should be much greater. That life sentence sounds pretty sweet to me. Give him a sentence befitting a real Hamburglar!

I assume that some form of background check is performed before hiring anyone for a TSA position. However, if no one reads them, or worse, if the person reading the background check is no more competent than the TSA agents I see at airports, GOOD LUCK.

Guy Apr 19th 2010 12:37AM
Adem, Were you born and raised in the USA? Your post is a disgrace. Computers have "Spell Check" and some normally educated brains have it too. Did you read what you typed? What a mess.
If you are 100% American, you've caused me to be embarassed.

The TSA is a joke of the worst kind. They do nothing to make air travel in the USA safer, and are trained to be belligerent, agressive, and intimidating to the flying public. Nothing more than a "make jobs" project. They are not "law enforcement officers", as they are not sworn and are not issued firearms and have no arrest powers; they are glorified; security guards. I have a son who IS an LEO (County Sheriff's Deputy) who was flying to a wedding and presented his State Issued Sheriff's Deputy Photo ID and Badge to a TSA agent that was checking ID in the boarding queue, and (she) said: "No, I need to see some 'official' ID...". He was too tired to ask to see her supervisor to inform him or her that the woman needed additional training, so he produced his Driver's License which made the TSA moron happy. What an idiot. We've joked about whether or not she would have recognized a PASSPORT as valid ID to travel.
