My husband and I went there several years ago to Cambridge Beaches. yes, it is upscale, BUT there are many perks. That cost includes full served and/or buffet breakfast, tea(Bermuda is British) in the afternoon, and full dinner. They also have the "dine-around",which means you can choose to have dinner at several other top-flight resorts. In my fifties, I appreciated the lack of gambling, hence no "undesirables",. It is not a spring break destination, which means I won't be accosted at every corner by kids acting like depraved, immoral idiots. There is a very high standard of living, little to no unemployment,so it is a very safe place to be. It felt wonderful to be able to take the pink buses everywhere and explore on our own, which I would never do in the Bahamas, Jamaica or Mexico, three places I will never go to again. If I have to stay inside my resort to enjoy my vacation, that's not a vacation. We loved Bermuda so much, that several years later(2005) my husband and I got married there. We stayed at the Reefs this time. I know this is beyond many people's reach, but we are in our 50's and if you want a trip to remember, Bermuda is spectacular. I highly recommend the 45 foot catamaran champagne sunset cruise out of Hamilton. When I went to Jamaica with several women, we were on a charter flight, and several young men were hung over and sick. It was so gross. I am so beyond that. Like I said, if you are looking for swinging nightlife, go to Las Vegas or the Bahamas, but if you want unparalleled beauty, quiet elegance, world class spas and wonderful places to explore, Bermuda is the place to be.
