Pack travel candles - Hotel tip
Travel candles solve a few of the typical hotel room woes, particularly for budget travelers: 1.) They mask the scent of overpowering cleaners (or worse, but let's not go there).
2.) They provide a soothing, romantic ambiance.
3.) Some scents, like lavender, help you fall asleep easier in unfamiliar surroundings.
Several companies, including The Travel Tin Company, make portable travel candles that are clean burning (no wall smudges or waxy drips) and safer than regular candles since they're contained in a tin.
For under $10, travel candles go a long way in creating a comfortable atmosphere in your hotel home away from home.

Hotel travel tip - Pack travel candles = Unsafe advice. Open flame in a hotel room is courting disaster! Possible alcohol consumption, sleepiness, bed linens, and open flame? No doubt many will respond to my comment by saying that they travel with candles all the time with no problem. Call them lucky! I've seen a hotel room torched by what began with an innocent "travel tin" candle. Candles not only place yourself at risk, you place all occupants of the hotel at risk. Please leave your candles home.

Please Beware when contemplating this idea. Some hotels charge penalty fees for smoke or smoking in the non-smoking rooms. Please ask first.

Just make sure you are allowed an open flame. You just might get hit with a $250 fine for "smoking"
