Greyhound driver tips off cops to half million in coke
When's the last time a Greyhound passenger had half a million dollars' worth of anything? Usually it's a tattered duffle bag and maybe an iPod. Well, police in Sherman, Texas, acting on a tip from a Greyhound driver, discovered $500,000 in cocaine in a passenger's unmarked suitcase. The police officer was waiting at the bus stop, thanks to the info. After sniffing around, so to speak, he found 12 pounds of coke in the lining of an Austin, Texas man's suitcase. And, the guy's day got even worse: in addition to the powder, he's being held for immigration reasons.

The bus driver did a great job. So did the police officer for that matter. About time people stepped up and turned these low lifes in for drugs and illegal entry into this country. One is a start and better than none when it comes to getting drugs away from our children.

to UMPSASUOUT: I don't think Peggy called him a low-life just because of his immigration problems, but because he was carrying and obviously selling drugs. And since you're getting technical about it, selling drugs is illegal last time I checked. I'm also a veteran and don't understand why you're getting so defensive about the whole thing. While fighting for freedom, you were also defending Peggy's right to express her opinion, even if you don't happen to agree with it.

Damn....I wonder why the bus driver didn't make a deal with the "mule" who was bringing the coke in? I mean heck, even if he only got 20%, he would never have to drive a greyhound bus again!!

So, let me get this straight, while rummaging through passenger luggage for some unspecified reason, the bus driver found coke in the lining of a suitcase. Glad the coke got stopped but what about the diver and the right to privacy of the passengers.

My comment about him being a low life was for drugs, I read the article that he was being held for immigration reasons also. Living in a state that borders our Southern neighbor, there is a lot of drugs brought into this country by people who have no legal right to be in the USA. Umpsasuout stop reading between the lines. I have the utmost respect for the military. I know first hand about soldiers laying their life on the line. My brother was killed in Viet Nam. I do not have respect for people who deal drugs and no excuse of making money is good enough to be a lowlife drug dealer.

Hey UMPSASUOUT, I'm a vet of multiple branches and find nothing close to immigrant hating about Peggy's comments ..... Explain to me something .... Why is it that you and the majority of spanish speaking individuals have a chip on your shoulders ..... ( I dont see any other language on my ATM in Pennsylvania)
Why not German ? or French ....... its because the people who came over back in the day actually learned the language (While maintaining their PROUD heritage !! ).
So if you ask me ..... anyone who wants all the Perks of the American dream but does not want to put in the effort of learning the land, language and founding ideas of the land that they want to live in ...... instead insisting that freedom flex according to their wants and desires.... is lazy. ( name one millionaire/billionaire who's family history begins in the United States of America).
We're all immigrant decendent in this country.
But,
I stand beside anyone who stands beside the rights my forefathers founded and countless men & women of all backgrounds, nationalities and ideas bled & died for..... Heck I'll die for their sons & daughters if they'll do the same .
I guess it can be summed up into this mentality for the average Natural born American .....
How many Spanish speaking individuals were there that lived and died liberating this country from the English ... maybe if the majority had been ...... I would be speaking it day to day ..... I would have no problem with that ....
But my philosophy is this ......
Do I come to your pad and expect you to bend over and kiss my a$$ ...... hmmmmm, not till you start paying your fair share of the rent and your names on the lease.( and if you are getting upset Marine .... you arent getting that this isn't directed at you..... you Sir have paid just as I have).

Finally it is conclusive. The reason for the drop in buses and trains is because of the negative socio-economic image they have.
In the 1950's I could catch a train or a bus to almost any where in our country. Try and do that today.
This is why many of us have to suffer the cost of an automobile; the upkeep, insurance, outlandish prices for gasoline, tag renewal, ( which is over 70 bucks a year), etc.
I love a train ride, especially the finer trains that Europe has to offer.
If we still had the old Grayhound and Trailways back then I , along with many others, could get around just fine.

MAYBE, JUST, MAYBE THIS REPORTER MIGHT HAVE KEPT HOW THE POLICE WERE TIPPED OFF AS TO THE COCAINE FROM THE REST OF US. IF THE BUS DRIVER WISHED TO BRAG TO THE NEWS HIS PART IN THE BUST, THEN MAYBE THE REPORTER MIGHT HAVE GIVEN HIM A CLUE AS TO THE SMUGGLERS NOT BEING TO HAPPY ABOUT THEIR SHIPMENT BEING USED AS A PUBLICITY STUNT FOR THE POLICE. I'M JUST SAYING!
