First, I don't change seats until the plane has taken off and the seat belt sign is off. I don't want to delay take off either.
Second, I'm glad to switch seats to let a family be together. Occasionally I'll even volunteer to do so. It's just the nice thing to do. I've flown with my kids and it is just so much easier when everyone is together. I'm happy to give another family that comfort.
Finally, I really can't believe that moving my 160 lb body a few rows is going to upset the balance of a Boeing 737 that weighs over 100,000 lbs. Or even a regional jet that may weigh "only" 20,000 lbs.
