Just a quick response to Nick.
Clearly there are less expensive down sleeping bags on the market. None that I know of are made with 850-950 fill power goose down and this high quality fabric. The lofting power of the down is especially important to the weight to warmth ratio and the longevity of the bag. For most people this will be a lifetime investment so that additional cost of let's say $75 can relatively easily be amortized over the life of the bag. A friend of mine used her 20 degree Western Ultralite over 300 nights in the backcountry as a NOLS instructor. After that many stuffings and unstuffings, she felt that it was beginning to lose some of its loft. She sent it back to Western and they opened every seam in the bag and distributed and additional 3oz. or 2,700 cubic inches of down into the bag before closing it up flawlessly! No other bag company has the capability to accomplish this task to say nothing of the fact that they did it at a cost of only $40. Her constant use of that bag ended up costing her approximately $1/night. Not bad for the lightest, most compressable 20 degree sleeping bag on the market. (1 lb., 8 oz in her size)
Just some food for thought. They're not for everyone but they're the best that can be had.
