Cops arrest entire drunk crew from Ukraine airline
We've occasionally written about a captain being pulled from his plane for being over the legal drinking limit, but arresting the entire crew for being drunk? Pretty sure that is a first. The airline in question is Ukraine based carrier Donbassaero. When local police acted on a tip, they boarded the Yak-42 plane and measured alcohol levels between 0.075 and 0.052 in every member of the crew - flight attendants, pilot and flight engineer. The legal limit in the Ukraine is 0.02.
The airline issued the following statement:
The flight was scheduled to fly from Simferopol to Kiev with 86 passengers and was just several minutes away from its departure time. The passengers ended up leaving for Kiev almost 12 hours late. The incident caught the attention of the federal government who have promised a full investigation."The exact causes behind the long delay in the departure of the plane are being investigated, after which Donbassaero's management will take adequate measures".

Well, that instills confidence doesn't it! Remind me NEVER to fly any airline from the Urkraine. You know, an action like that is SO incredibly stupid that it's almost unbelievable. I guess we have to go on the assumption this news story is true, but to have EVERY member of a flight team drunk is just so crazy. You'd think one of them would have had more sense. Flying has become a miserable venture anyway. Who wants to go through the entire ordeal of flying and security and flight attendants being rude and everything else if on top of it all, there's a good chance you're going to end up crashing from a drunk pilot. Not me that's for sure. Well folks, anyone need a job as a pilot? I hope we can assume there are a few openings now at this airline.

And were there any sheep on the plane ?

This is for piloting an aircraft, you moron--not an automobile. (Apparently, Carlo Oompah shares the same pickled-too-often brain as you.) The potential for disaster at the controls of an aircraft is many times what it would be in a car--as if driving "a little buzzed" isn't bad enough. And what has being sober in the cockpit to do with MADD? That stands for Mothers Against Drunk Driving. You two truly are stupid.

The Ukraine ? No, this is incorrect. The proper name of the country in question is Ukraine. In addition the report states that "The incident caught the attention of the federal government" who's federal government is the tiny brained reporter referring to ? Ukraine uses a parliamentary style of government. The story is nothing but hog wash. I'm quite sure that every word is total fabrication.

I bet they will all be released sooner or later. No charges were filed.

I travel internationally frequently and stay in hotels where many flight crews stay.
I have seen MANY drunk flight attendants partying. If they have to fly the next day, there blood alcohol levels would STILL be considered illegal. I have seen the after effects when they try to work the next day. Another reason to replace flight attendants with vending machines and let us all fend for ourselves if we crash land!

The point is not how drunk they were but that they were drinking on the job at all. When you fly you are placing your life in the hands of the crew with the understanding that they will do their best to get you to your destination safely. I personally would not want to place myself or my loved ones in the hands of someone that had been drinking. I do not have a problem with drinking responsibly however this was not a responsible choice.

Seriously...it's "Ukraine" not "the Ukraine." The Cold War is over.

I was on that flight lol! Ended up sitting in the airport for 19 hours. Talk about crazy! Of course it made me miss EVERY connecting flight and a 20 hour trip home turned into 73 hours. Plus had to pay $500 to change my other flights. I have nothing against drinking, but the Ukrainians take it way too far sometimes!!
