Video of the week (3.05.10)
As Balleka says, "The flight was from Johannesburg, South Africa to Maputo, Mozambique, and we were cleared for a visual approach onto RWY 05 as we were passing FL120 about 25nm out. Airline flying doesn't get much better than this!"
I agree. But there's absolutely no way I'll be mounting my camera to the 767 nosegear anytime soon.

I love the video, but I can't help wonder what would happen if the camera fell off...
Remember the damage a small strip of metal (allegedly) did to Concorde when it was on the runway?
Of what if the camera fell off during take-off or landing?
Risky stuff if you ask me...

Great video. It makes sense but I never realized you had independent control over the landing gear so that the pilot could lower just the nose wheel to capture that great approach.

Fantastic video! This is why I like flying, even though only as a passenger.
Bruce, I don't think that the independent control of the landing gear was designed for video capture purposes! ;-)

Wow, that's pretty cool. I'm liking this video of the week thing.

I wasn't aware that they could lower the NLG without lowering the mains. I've only worked on military aircraft designs but none of the planes I'm familiar with can lower just the nose gear. Why would you want that feature?

Otherwise a cool video. I'm glad I wasn't on that flight - a bit risky to just add something to an aircraft like that.

Great!

The pilot who made the video posted a new video explaining how he made filmed the video and how they lowered the nose gear without lowering the main landing gear.
