Hotel room security defeated by a piece of wire - can be secured with a towel
This video clip is pretty alarming - it shows how easy it is for a stranger to enter your hotel room, using nothing more than a piece of wire. As you can see in the clip, the wire goes under the door, and is used to open the door from the inside. In all my years of staying in hotels, I never realized how simple it could be.
Thankfully, the clip also shows how easy it is to defeat this method - stuff a towel behind the door handle. Of course, now this new entry method has been revealed to the world, I'm going to have to start using the towel protection method every time I'm in a hotel room. At least when you are in your room, you can protect against this kind of entry with the deadbolt and/or door chain, the real danger is when you are not in your room, and nobody is protecting your valuables.

Well, hotel thieves, here's the deal. Break into my room. What will you get?
Kmart/WalMart quality clothing.
Lavender scented soap
Maybelline Makeup (and not much of that)
Size 5 shoes
Assorted clean and dirty lingerie.
That's it. So, is it worth it to break into my room? No.
Oh, and if you think you're going to assault me, think again. Can you spell m-a-r-t-i-a-l a-r-t-s? I thought you could.

I stayed in a hotel after not traveling for many years, I was scared that someone could easily get a copy of my hotel key card and enter my room while I was out. You can't trust anyone these days. Just don't leave valuables in your hotel room...ever!

Just change the inside door handle. This only works because there is a bump on the inside of the handle and it is straight and horizontal. Remove the bump, mount the handle at an angle downward or make it a curved shape and it won't work.

I agree with Keith....very stupid idea. They could have just cautioned that it's easy for certain criminals to get into a hotel room, but NOT show how. They could, however, show just the towel trick.
