It would only be fair to also point out that several sections of the Great Himalayan Trail has been functional since several decades (specially in Nepal), including the trek in the Everest Region, the Langtang Region, Dolpo, Upper Mustang, Humla etc in Nepal.
One need not book with a British company to do these trips, but can be more responsible by booking with Nepalese companies, ensuring that the monies stays in the local economy.
Some companies (working on sustainability) are listed in http://www.responsibletravelnepal.com and also on the National Geographic Adventure article on the 25 Best New Trips on the Planet, which listed the Great Himalayan Trail.

Enjoy and see you in 2011 in the mountains!
