I had the rare privilege of flying on one of Cap'n Frank's flights one summer: a non-stop from San Diego to Boston. By this time, Cap'n Frank was well into his career and well known to all in his crews.
So it came as no surprise to find him once again short-handed this day. Only those with recently-calibrated Rosaries showed up to make the trip.
Suddenly pressed into service, I was assigned to assist the main cabin flight attendants, Kate and Natalie. These were seasoned veterans, pretty and proud in their crisp uniforms and in their demeanors, but I noticed that they prayed more often than one might expect for seasoned veterans.
As was typical for Cap'n Frank, he went out of his way to make certain that his flying public had a chance to experience and truly appreciate the joy of flying, going out of his way to find every pocket of turbulence on an otherwise dead calm day.
When at last we touched down at Logan, the passengers saluted Cap'n Frank and his crew with a thunderous ovation for their job well done, just as soon as Kate and Natalie cleared them to come up out of their crash positions.
My congrats to Cap'n Frank on the completion of his splendid career.
