Belgium running out of its best beer after brewery blockade
Belgium is running out of beer! The world capital of good beer is in the middle of a "beer war". When mega-brewer (and new owner of Anheuser-Busch) InBev decided to fire 260 of its Belgian employees, the entire staff decided to shut down the breweries, and prevent any beer from being produced. Belgians consumer just under 95 liters of beer a year (compared to 81 liters in the United States), they are also one the largest producers of beer - InBev brews 21% of all the beer in the world, though the Belgian brands only make up a small percentage of that.
There are no plans as of yet to break up the blockade, though if the strike really does last too long, I'm guessing thirsty Belgians may take matters into their own hands.

Belgium is running out of beer? Have you been to Belgium? The local pubs are probably doing great business now, with their extensive collection of independent brews. Which are better than anything InBev has to offer. Go to Delirium Cafe in Brussels, and you can choose from 1000 beers. I was in Belgium for 2 weeks straight and didn't touch a single InBev drink. Too many other delicious choices!

Good for the Belgium workers! If the Anheuser-Busch employees would have stood up instead of taking the money and running, maybe companies would think twice about screwing the hired help.

Maybe if we are lucky, Budweiser will go out of business and quit hogging all the shelf space with their tasteless beverages. Michelob Light. Yuck.

Gee, a large corp. buys out a company and then fires some of their employees? Who saw that coming?

The only good thing about Budweiser were the commercials and the Clydesdale horses. I can honestly say Budweiser would be a better tasting beer is they added the droppings from the stables to the mash. As for the Belgians -The French Legionaires-"Le Boudin" marche says it all.

I LOVE BEER! Bud is the worst beer I've ever tasted. Hopefully the hard working "homers" will get a raise and free beer for the rest of their life.

Why not drink German beer, Belgians? It's just as good.

I lived there for 6 years and there's only one thing to say... "Chef un 'tite verre, on a soif! Chef un 'tite verre, on a soif! Une petite biere on a soif! On a soif! On a soif!"

I'm a chef and like wines there are beer pairings with food. In my opinion the best beer for food is Erdinger Weis, not the Belgian Hoegaarden. Chef Alfred Schrader

This could be the end of civilization as we know it….thank god I just got a new ½ barrel of Stella on tap in the Wallace Pub before this debacle occurred!
The longest continuously brewed beer on the planet: Stella Artois…since 1366…has had the brewery closed! Those b_______s @ InBev must PAY!

Steve-you are sadly misinformed about Stella Artois. The 1366 they so proudly display is when brewing began in the town of Leuven. The apology for beer called Stella dates back to around 1926. It's a typical tasteless mass produced "lager" which is a serious contender for the worst Belgian beer.
