Honest people still exist - NYC Cabbie returns handbag with $21,000 in cash
When Bangladeshi cabbie Mukul Asadujjaman found a handbag containing $21,000 in cash, passports and jewelry in the back of his cab, he could have shrugged and handed it in to lost and found. Some cabbies may even have decided it was their lucky day, and pocketed the cash. Mr. Asadujjaman did the best possible thing - he drove 50 miles to the original pickup address, left his phone number, and reunited the owners with their property. He wouldn't even accept a reward, turning it down saying that as a Muslim he could not accept it.
Of course, this should serve as a reminder to anyone with that much cash, that carrying it in a handbag in a New York cab is a really bad idea.
The money belonged to an Italian family, visiting the United States, and the loss of all their money and passports would have severely screwed up their plans. Kudos to Mr. Asadujjaman, it really is refreshing to see that honest people still exist.

GOOD FOR YOU MR. ASADUJJAMAN.
VERY HONORABLE, YOU WILL BE BLESSED.
I KNOW I SPELLED YOUR NAME RIGHT, BECAUSE I HAD TO GO BACK A FEW TIMES TO GET IT CORRECT. LOL

That is amazing, and that he actually drove all that way to return the money. Didn't realize people like that still exist. He is a better man than me. Great story!

Play this story for congress, wall street, bank of america, goldman sachs, chase, aig, the fed, the white house and all of the people in equal positions all around the world. This man is truly rich because he has untold wealth in his heart rather than the transitory vainglorious trap that the rich find themselves, and have punched their ticket for a sulpher rich and rather warm destination. Have fun in the boiler room with the lizard with the pointy tail.

I'm surprised he didn't get called a moron by the media. Usually when some body stands up for right and moral principals, the media makes them look like idiots.
Any way, "right on" Mukul

I lost my wallet this past Thursday.
A Chinese man/owner of a local fresh fruit and veggie market returned my wallet to me this morning, after finding it at the bottom of his avocado bin.
It was intact with my money and holiday gift cards plus all of my identification. I was grateful beyond words and he has restored my faith in the common good of people.
I will shop at his market forever! If you're in the neighborhood, please give him some business.
It's Lucky Farm, on Summit Avenue in Hackensack, New Jersey.
This is the least I can do for him...

Closed minded americans you must realize that not all Muslims are bad.!

I agree with you aminah. There are honest and dishonest people in all races, although some people would like to make comments against any race they hate. You cannot change people's thinking but it's nice to read positive articles for a change.

nothing about this story is real other than that God tested this man's faith and he passed that test and this man knows that whatever the value of this money and jewelry he knows these are earth-bound values and this man has other plans for his future and they do not happen here on earth. I would have done the same exact thing!
:)

I once left my purse in the Denver airport and didn't realize it until we were airborne and almost to our destination. I told the flight attendant and she told the pilot. He sent the information back to Denver where a wonderful person ran the entire length of the airport to find my purse and find it he did. It was delivered to me personally by personnel of Frontier Airlines in Salt Lake City by 7 o'clock that evenint. I'll never forget it.

A NYC cabbie kept and returned a pair of prescription glasses left by my son in the back seat of his cab. This followed a quick search by the Taxi and Limousine Commission to find the driver. It was a wonderful response by the parties involved. There are great people around for certain.

About a month ago, I shopped at Walmart and left my purse sitting in the cart in the parking lot and went home. Immediately, I drove back when I noticed it. In the meantime, at least an hour had past....I was crying that I was so stupid and praying that my purse would still be there. I did not have too much money in it, but my credit card, my driver license, medicare card, military ID, etc. While driving into the parking lot, I could see, the purse was not there. I went into Walmart and ..... a very honest lady had turned my purse in. I was so sorry, that Walmart did not take her name, so I could thank her properly. I am over 70 and it would have been hardship for me - I am so thankful to this honest lady!

Give the man his own cab with a tank of gas and Cabbie License as a reward.

I was coming home from Sydney, Australia late in 2000 and had just cashed in travelers checks and had a wallet full of cash. When I arrived at LAX I made my way to the terminal for my connecting flight and stopped at a bank of phones to call people and let them know I was back in the USA. I got my phone card out of my wallet and laid the wallet on the counter. The phone didn't work and the others were being used. I saw one on available at another bank of phones and rushed to it. I made my calls, hung up the phone and looked for a seat in the waiting lounge. I had just settled in when I got paged on the P.A. system. I went to the ticket counter and an agent handed me my wallet. Everything was there and the good samaritan who turned it in was long gone. Two years later I was in Salt Lake City and when I could not get a cell signal in an office building I went to the public phones to make a call and found a wallet. Nearby there was a group gathering to go to a meeting. I called out the name I found in the wallet and one of the men in the group raised his hand. I felt good that I was able to pay back the favor.

My parents recently visited New York City and my mother left her purse--with money (not $21,000 !), credit cards, driver's license,...--in the cab and that dear man came back across town, took alot of time out of his busy schedule and returned her purse--intact--with a great attitude and sense of humor. I guess there really are good souls still out there. This incident was one of the highlights of their trip and this story is the first one they tell when talking about their trip!

Hallelujah. I guarantee you that that cabbie will be blessed many times over for the great and honorable deed he did.

God bless you sir. The world needs more like you, less of greedy bankers and war-starting Aholes.
