I've been reading your column off and on for a while, I always go back to read everything I missed. I like to live vicariously through your posts!
I've noticed myself every time we begin flying over the Rockies there's usually some turbulence, even if it's very light. It doesn't bother me much. Even at 30k feet!
Also, I am impressed how Microsoft FSX simulates this mountain caused turbulence pretty well. It also seems to create turbulence when nearing the coast of a large lake or the ocean (in FSX I usually fly a Mooney Bravo below 10k feet).
