This is nothing compared to an incident I experienced at LAX the first week of November. I went to LA for a conference and had some free time to hike in the mountains. I packed a hunting knife in my checked luggage (a 4 1/2" Gerber E-Z Out with a serrated edge) and forgot to take it out of my backpack I use for carry-on upon my return. After going through security at LAX and boarding the plane, I reached in my carry-on to retrieve a book to read and discovered that I had the knife in my backpack. I didn't bring this to anyone's attention since I feared my side of the story would not be heard and certain the TSA would not be grateful for me pointing out a breach in their security. However, I wrote letters (complete with a phot of the knife) and made calls to my elected representatives, the TSA, local and national news outlets and received one form e-mail response from the TSA thanking me for bringing this to their attention and two form e-mails from the same Senator stating that the responsibility for security resides with the TSA but if anything related to this needed legislated on he would certainly take my concerns under consideration.
This latest breach I fear is only the tip of the iceberg. How many situations like mine have gone unreported, unresponded to, or chalked up as a success by a terrorist organization planning future attacks.
Fortunately, this time, I was one of the good guys.

Love the list of airport bars. Would love to see an international list someday.
